Tentatively, she placed one foot in front of the other and applied pressure. The pain and numbness were there, and it traveled her body to wrack her mind. With a deep breath, she forced the other foot to give another step towards the old man.
"I can."
The old man signaled an invitation to get out of the room, and took the lead. Her legs, now truly hers, wobbled but she steeled herself to follow him. Step by step, the pain started to fade away.
Due to her stubbornness to acknowledge it or simply because they were actually aching less, she finally started to walk, showing no hint of pain. The cold floor greeted her feet. The steely walls greeted her eyes. And as she was silently walking, she remembered something.
