No. Ku Dessie. I haven't been in a fight yet, because I'm not even sure self-defense would be a valid reason. Which is why I've tended to run from situations that might turn violent.
Running would likely reduce any inRP consequences, rather than staying to fight any LN that try to kick you out for example. You'd be within RP to defend yourself from Rogues though.
To elaborate on Hone's insightful post...
The ID tells you what you can do, and not many tell you specifically not to go to certain places. If your RP is that you are outside your ZoI, that's fine. Just don't expect to be within the rules if you start engaging people outside of your ID restrictions, even if you've made it your RP.
InRP consequences are dependant on where you go. If you went to New York as an Exile KuDessie and claimed to be hunting for Gauls; even though your ID says you can do that, the Navy will still say "No foreign caps in Liberty", and likely something that they would handle any incursions themselves.
Don't listen to Prysin, he has no idea what he is talking about. The server rules trump all with ID's allowances and restrictions overriding any rule that conflicts with them.
Doesn't matter how good your role play is - if you break the rules and get reported you're going to get hit with someone's hammer.
ZoI determines where you can operate your character normally. When outside of your ZoI you are restricted to self defense and in the case of pirates - no piracy. Of course, this is a rule that isn't part of the server rules, but one that a few admins have stated on the forums before (maybe in a saction report too).
Of course, if the other party agrees to ignore the rules so you can role play - you're golden (just screen them agreeing for CYA).

What he said.
It might be best if you could ease into the RP - by making pre-planned interactions with people that you expect to meet there. Once you're a more regular sight, people might be more inclined to recognize you.

It is. The rules are clear on that - you may defend yourself at all times. It'd just be wrong to start initiating actions far out of your own ZoI. Act passively when outside of your ZoI, would be my advice. Consider yourself a civilian.
Incidentally, I believe the usual thwap for being outside your ZoI is a beam back to where you should be along with a warning, and maybe a rep adjustment if you were docked somwhere you should never have been.

Well, the process of getting an SRP will be a long and trying one so the reason I asked was to avoid getting dinged early on. Getting a rephack to the Navy wouldn't be a bad thing since the character's RP is hostile to them. But that's something for another day, I still need to get the character fully developed first.
