HISTORY

Why should anyone bother learning about things that happened far away and long ago? Who cares about events like Treaty of Curacao or the recently retreating of the Luxury Liner Shetland from Edinburgh? Well... the study of history is worthwhile and necessary for the education of effective citizens and worthy human beings. History shows us good and bad choices that were made and allows us to learn from our ancestors mistakes and change them. So... the history help us to take care of our future!

The Beginning

A few years before the Texas incident, one of the most important events from the entire Sirius history, in 475 A.S., a very rich businessman, Tony Cortez, has founded a corporation named "Orbital Spa and Cruise", having its headquarters on Planet Curacao. Offering initially only luxury leisure services for travelers in transit through the Cortez system and being favored by the lack of competitors on the tourism market of those times, this corporation enjoys a huge success. In short time, more rich people were attracted by its offers and Curacao became a pleasure planet where every whim and decadent urge is fulfilled.

The Expansion

In order to satisfy the desires of those who have higher levels of incomes, Orbital Spa and Cruise has decided to extend its activity, entering the shipping business. But unlike other corporations, was focused mainly on passenger transport and to carry luxury goods. Due to the quality of its services, Orbital Spa and Cruise managed to build a great reputation and was perceived as one of the most richest corporations from the entire Sirius. With a flexible policy, the company was able to establish good relationships with lawful authorities from the almost all houses.

Despite its origins, Orbital Spa and Cruise was allowed to operate in places where other Liberty corporations were restricted, including those located in Rheinland space, the worst of Liberty's enemy. Inevitably, the need was felt to settle new destinations for vacationers, tourists, VIP's or any other people that were willing to pay enough, just to taste from the pleasure of traveling through space, aboard a luxury vessel.

Over time, Orbital Spa and Cruise has opened new offices in different far-flung systems, like Stuttgart, Sigma-19, Nagano or Newcastle, known also as New Anglia. After Curacao, Baden Baden was the second planet where this corporation chose to expand its operations and where it still maintains a popular resort, though it has seen a decline in business as the economic situation in Rheinland grows worse, while radicals sympathetic to the LWB farmer's movement attack government officials who vacation here.

The Hawaii

In 791 A.S., in its efforts to include in itineraries offered the most beautiful places from the entire Sirius, Orbital Spa and Cruise became interested by a place with a wonderful view, from the Sigma-19 system. Not having the possibility to land on the planet Hiran, a gas giant with few resources worth the climb out of its steep gravity well, the company decided to invest a huge amount of money for placing of a "wild class liner" on the orbit of this uninhabited planet, being considered as a place with a good potential in the tourists attraction.

The movement has proved to be a inspired one because, even today, the "Luxury Liner Hawaii" is an incredibly popular destination for the most travelers. According with some rumors, Orbital Spa and Cruise have dealings there with more or less lawful groups, like Hogosha or Corsairs, and that location was used as a cover for illegal activities, but its representatives officially never admitted such things.

The Mackinac

As part of the expansion strategy, other two liners were established in Kusari and Bretonia. The first, this time an "Enterprise" class ship baptized "Luxury Liner Mackinac", was placed on the orbit of the planet Tomioka from the Nagano system. Although initially, Orbital Spa and Cruise has planned the establishment of a new operating center directly on the planet, this intention was abandoned, due to Samura's prejudice against foreign companies in Kusari.

The Mackinac has been a frequent target of blackmail and extortion, as well as rampant drug dealing by the Hogosha in Nagano. The reduced income caused by the Hogosha and Samura has determined many ranking Orbital Spa and Cruise executives to question its economic viability.

The Shetland

With the recently retreating of the "Luxury Liner Shetland" from Edinburgh to Newcastle (New Anglia) system, in the face of Gallia's invasion, Orbital Spa and Cruise has been forced to accept any possible money-making locations for their liners, regardless of the risk and problems that come with them.

The Shetland is famous for its gourmet restaurants and shopping arcades but also for offered tours of the protected preserve of Gaia, a beautiful, tropical paradise and pristine world, where visas are an extraordinarily rare and expensive item.

Treaty of Curacao

As a notable event in its history, could be mentioned that in 817 A.S., Orbital Spa and Cruise was involved along with the Independent Miners Guild, in the negociations between the representative governments of the Republic of Liberty and the Realm of Bretonia, concerning the governance and security of the Magellan and Cortez systems, finally materialized through signing of an agreement, known as the "Treaty of Curacao".

The signing ceremony of this treaty took place in the orbit of planet Curacao but had a negative effect over relationships between this corporation and all authorities from the Gallia space. From this reason, neither today, the presence of its vessels is not welcome in their systems.

A new version of this treaty could be signed soon, but this time with the involvement of new entities, such as Colonial Republic. In particularly, although the representatives of the Orbital Spa and Cruise are agree with its renewal, they try to keep a reserved position regarding the possible actions of other signatories conducted against the Gallic Royal Navy, being more concerned to gain an increased security in the Cortez system.

Subsidiaries Companies

Through the years, there have been several attempts to create subsidiaries companies of the Orbital Spa and Cruise. The most important were "PanGalactic Travel Company" founded by David Sander in 816 A.S. and later, "White Spa Lines" company, created by an ambitions man, named Walter Stryker. Thanks to an architect of this second subsidisiary, Peter Englund, who designed a new type of ship known as L-584 "Enterprise", the Orbital Spa and Cruise corporation was able to create a special division of luxury liners highly appreciated in all Sirius system.

Anyway, if the second subsidiary had followed the policy decided by the mother corporation, PanGalactic Travel Company had particularly close relationships with the Bretonian authorities and chosen to establish its headquarters aboard the PGL Majestic, a Bretonian Royal Liner which was decommissioned after service in the Foreign Office. Unfortunately, all these attempts have failed due to a weak management structure and/or lack of clear roles and responsibilities for those involved.

The Present

With a new management team, it is believed that Orbital Spa and Cruise plans to implement a different strategy in order to become more attractive, consisting in a improvement of the business relationships with all corporations from the Gallia space, but in the conjunction with a strengthening of those that are already settled with the companies and governments from the Liberty, Bretonia, Rheinland and Kusari houses. Nowadays, despite to its origins, this company is seen and act more like an independent one.

Some rumors have suggested that Orbital Spa and Cruise has already established connections with some corporations from Gallia, but its representatives refused to confirm or deny the veracity of this information, because they want to avoid jeopardizing relationships with Liberty's authorities.

The Future

Having a smaller logistic structure, with only three divisions much better organized, the Orbital Spa and Cruise aspire to become a corporation with access granted in all Sirius. Also, this company started a long-term project named "Orbital's Jurassic Park", with the purpose to create a unique attraction for tourists who wants to experience a “lively” tour through the middle of an complex artificial environment, specially designed to resemble the Triassic period from the old Earth.

STRUCTURE

Businesses require a good structure to grow and be profitable. Organizational structure is important to provide guidance and clarity to employees at all levels of a company. By paying mind to the organizational structure, departments can work more like well-oiled machines, focusing time and energy on productive tasks. Therefore, organizational structure of the Orbital Spa and Cruise flows logically from its core activities and refers to the composition, subordination, interaction and distribution of works between the following main departments: logistics and security.

Logistics Department

A good management of logistics is crucial for effective and efficient delivery of quality services provided by the Orbital Spa and Cruise corporation. "Logistics Department" is a section of the company which manages logistics to ensure the business is successful and includes two divisions: Luxury and Transportation.

Luxury Division

The "Luxury Division" is seen as an emblem of prosperity for the Orbital Spa and Cruise corporation in interactions with the outside world, and its primary role is to provide luxurious transport for corporations or individual passengers.

Security Department

Leaded by the Chief Security Officer, this department is responsible for the security of all Orbital Spa and Cruise personnel. An employee of the "Security Department" is well-trained and has an outstanding fighting skill. Usually, they are former members of military or naval forces from various houses.

Security Division

The main role of the "Security Division" is to ensure the security of the Orbital Spa and Cruise vessels throughout their travels between the leisure resorts. Occasionally, some security ships could be seen flying in very distant systems, as part of secret spy missions.

RANKS

Managerial accountability in the hierarchy of authority should not be used to point fingers and accuse staff members of being incompetent. A clearly defined hierarchy creates a path of accountability for every project and activity within the company. An evaluation of our employees is a key step in dividing duties. Also, eliminating redundancy in the duties each person performs makes more efficient use of time and money. Therefore we decided to have a clear division of responsibilities at the head of the company. No one individual should have unfettered powers of decision.

Leadership Team

The "Leadership Team" is the highest entity in the company hierarchy and consists of two persons: Chief Executive Officer and Chairperson. Formally, they are the leaders, the key decision makers who serve at the various levels of leadership throughout the organization. Except matters reserved for debate in the Board of Directors meetings, the "Leadership Team" is the superior deciding body of the Orbital Spa and Cruise company, entrusted with its management, administration and representation.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is the highest ranking officer with executive power, in charge of total management of the corporation. Considered the official leader of the Orbital Spa and Cruise, the CEO has responsibility for the day-to-day management of the company, establishing the corporate goals, strategies and budgets or putting into effect the decisions of the board and should be in a good working relationship with the Chairperson.

Considered the second leader of the Orbital Spa and Cruise, the main role of the Chairperson is to oversee and mediate all debates and meetings of the Board of Directors. Although the CEO is the official leader of the organization, the Chairperson shall provide assistance to the CEO and ensure the organisation is managed effectively.

Executive officers of the "Board of Directors" have a specified area of responsibility, depending on the nature and type of each department. They are appointed or dismissed only by the CEO.

Chief Administrative Officer (CAO)

The Chief Administrativ Officer (CAO) is the "right hand" of CEO. He or her is primarily responsible for administrative management of Orbital Spa and Cruise corporation. The CAO is one of the highest-ranking members of an organization, managing daily operations and usually reporting directly to the Chief Executive officer.

The COO has a crucial role in the company because he or her act as a field operations manager, with rights to negotiate business agreements, to set up the itineraries and oversee all deliveries of the Orbital Spa and Cruise vessels.

Also he or her has the right to perform reconnaissance and spy missions in order to identify any potential security risk.

Employees

An employee of the Orbital Spa and Cruise corporation is considered any person whose job application has been approved by the CEO, usually through the hiring process performed via the "Employment Office" channel. Depending on the department chosen, they can be Captains or Officers. The Captain is an employee of the Luxury or Transportation Division and the Officer is an employee of the Security Division.

Both are responsible for all operations aboard the vessel, including but not limited to navigation, safety and medical care of all souls aboard (both guests and crew). He or she has a full authority to make executive decisions in order to preserve the life and safety of the ship's personnel and guest and must apply extreme care and proper judgement according to any given situation. Fully responsible for crisis management and course of action in case of emergency, the only person authorized to issue the "abandon ship" order should he/she decides that this is the only option for saving the lives of all souls aboard the vessel.

DIPLOMACY

Due to the aspiration to be perceived as an independent corporation and to gain access rights for its operations in all Sirius houses, the Orbital Spa and Cruise vessels could be found everywhere. However, we strongly recommend avoiding all those systems where are settled bases belonging to hostile corporations or enemies groups. Therefore, the main areas of operations include systems located in following houses: Liberty, Bretonia, Kusari and Rheinland. One of our goals is to improve the relationships with Gallia but for the moment, you should stay away from their systems!

We heard that our competitors from Gallia have greater financial resources than us and provides a wider range of resorts in their systems. Somehow, we feel lucky because they are not welcome in other houses, but this does not mean that we can afford to ignore the risk of losing our supremacy on the market. Therefore, we are continuously seeking opportunities to improve and diversify our services through some projects, meant to attract more tourists to the Orbital Spa and Cruise resorts.

Orbital's Jurassic Park - Start date: March 19, 821 A.S.

The aim of the "Orbital's Jurassic Park" project is to build a unique theme park on Pelle Island located on planet Erie, that in some way will resemble Earth of Triassic period, with a controlled natural environment for growing many different of vegetation types, flora and fauna species brought from all over the Sirius, especially those that are considered to be at risk of extinction. Due to its complexity, is considered a long-term project, but once that will be completed, could be a real boost for the Liberty tourism market, as well as for the its economy. Being the first big project of the Orbital Spa and Cruise corporation since the new administration team took over its leadership, may be also a good opportunity to establish useful connections with other organisations and corporations.

The Financing

In early stage of the implementation phase, a first analysis of the project indicates that it is expected as the total value of investments to exceed the amount of two billion sirius credits. Therefore, the first step was seeking of a sponsor and it seems that Orbital Spa and Cruise was able to obtain a promise from a very well known bank named "The Bank of Your Needs", in order to cover a part of the financial costs.

The Location

Initially, the Orbital Spa and Cruise company intended to build this park on Curacao but later was concluded that this planet is not a suitable place for the "Orbital's Jurassic Park" project. Therefore, it was decided to build this park on the Pelle Island, located on the planet Erie and were started negotiations with local authorities for its purchasing. Liberty Police Inc. has assessed the value of this island at 756.387.873 sirius credits but the negotiations are still in progress.
