As a result of the rollback, my bank's been heavily drained and after I get around to remaking all the ships (mostly for factions, not just indies or conn toys), i'm going to obviously end up with even less. I also need it for CL}, so things like Cap armours, cloaks etc.
However, as I made most of my money through sig making and I feel less than inclined to PM around asking all those I made for, to repay me...I have to revert to old-fashioned trading. I get really bored of it very quickly and I just can't find the motivation to bother.
Anyway, to the point. Any ways that you guys have found, of making trading more interesting? Anything will do. For the record I have smuggler, Freelancer and Gateway (indie) characters so i'm not short of route choice or anything. Maybe i'm just horribly lazy.
Pretty spot on, trading is a pretty dull activity with (In the bigger picture) low reward and large time investment. My biggest problem with the current trading system is that the most valuable commodities (Unless this has changed) such as ores must be mined by other players who simply aren't always available. Perhaps making trade routes a few waypoints shorter or inflating the sell prices of station bought goods would help, or even reducing the already large pricetag on equipment and in some cases ships, though many prefer to keep it as is understandably.
Smuggling Artifacts to Rochester or (if you're feeling lucky) Manhattan from wherever they sell from now is usually pretty interesting depending on what route you take, though it does take quite some time.
Old disco problems, mineing and tradeing. I don't think there is much to do to 'fix' this. I mean mineing/hauling the ore takes up the same time/payment as tradeing/smuggling. Makeing it too easy on makeing cash is not good, but yet makeing it too hard/slow is bad. Is a situation I just can't really see a fix. There are players who like to trade and those who like to mine. Lower the price on ore miners will rise, lower price on comodities traders will rise and revolt. Same goes on riseing the price of ore without riseing the price for comodities and vice versa. Is just a no win scenario. But my advice is, get a friend or two online to trade with. Is always more fun when there are more than one people.
I have recently renewed my interest in Cryer, as they are one of my favorite companies in the game. They can legally move a lot of contraband, notably synth weed. They can also go out of their way and attack Outcasts and other cardamine addicts with the intention of gathering people for human experimentation. They can also steal any cardamine they see too. Mostly I stay to moving high tech equipment and medical stuff, does not have to be to Cryer bases either... I have a few basic routes figured out so far, working on plotting out more.
You might also want to consider making a completely unlawful trader, a Hessian or Molly or Corsair that just moves cargo for instance. I have been wanting to try that out actually....hmm, maybe I will do that later.
Disco should try to implement npc trading missions in some way- like Euro Truck Simulator in space
*docks*
/showtradingmissions
Missions available (3)
1) Mox delivery
2) VIP and other passengers
3) Smuggle some cardamine and slaves
/showmission 1
Deliver mox to planet manhattan, reward 20 millions, LSF difficulty rating: 10
/takemission 1
Buy minimum (3000) oxygen, and then set course for Planet manhattan. You have 30 minutes starting now, Good Luck!
*buys mox, undocks, heads to manhattan*
*upon successful delivery and it is confirmed I sold the mox on manhattan, I recieve pay (and maybe reputation).*
maybe a comlete range of bonuses & penalties can somehow also be implemented, as well as some interesting variables eg. a loud council passenger that occasionally sends out system chat messages and makes you hostile with all GRP for a duration of 30 seconds, or a important delivery mission that gives you more reputation but no pay, etc.
No atmosphere? GTFO.
The propeller is the greatest invention of all time.

That concept is freakin brilliant!
Maybe make game wide announcements when a player takes a trading mission.
"CharName has taken a smuggling mission to Manhattan." Maybe the commodity is a type of "mission cargo" that can be taken from the trader and sold on the base for your own gain. This will attract all lawfuls and pirates to try and stop the "smuggler." Of course we'd have to remove FR5s for this type of "smuggling" or maybe during the mission it makes your rep dockable no matter what?
Also like other mission cargoes, once the holder logs off it disappears. No hoarding mission cargoes and selling late at night. Maybe make the mission fail if you even dock on another base other than your destination?

nooooooooo way, if everyone saw that then every scumbag pirate would be after him, itll be 50% of people in game hunting him down, unless he had a cloak hed be toast
The best way to make trading fun is: roleplay in group channel.
You are invited to fly with an IMG convoy (e.g. on your Gateway or any other fitting ship) and you'll see that trading can be so much more than just "click... click... damn npc!... click... wait...".
