Gamma raids. Too many. So many enemies and forum hate it became tedious.
The hit and run stuff became impossible. Log on in any system but Gamma and some troll would appear and start in system chat with the same old tired bollocks about being cannibals, all the time looking for you to try to kill. Then they started turning up in numbers and complaining in chat or in some cases even on the forums if you couldn't be arsed and flew off or logged.
Gamma was the only place you could play a corsair in the end and then the raids started. 4 or 5 a day at it's worst. Entire fleets for two corsair snubs for example.
The RP element of being a corsair was killed off by players who felt they're RP of killing corsairs justified their existence.
Bounty boards that didn't actually pay credits, despite screening bogus transactions.
Alliances that just grew up for the act of killing corsairs.
The list goes on.
Suffice to say, the old days as has been pointed out were more golden for corsairs. Why?
Because corsairs were free to have RP. Something the Outcasts have suffered from as well.
We both, were free to act within the Freelancer universe as something more than targets. Everyone knew what to expect in an encounter even if they'd never been out of New York and most of the players tried to make the most of the encounters. Credits, cargo, equipment and even a cantankerous parrot on one occasion.
Buffer systems?
Sigma 13 is not exactly near to Gamma but was a hot bed of action for Corsairs, Outcasts, Blood Dragons and even the odd GMG.
Cambridge and even Dublin could be accessed and raids conducted. If you were quick on your toes, you could pirate into New London at the gates. BAF would arrive and you'd skirmish and then withdraw.
Rheinland was a different target. Compared to the other places of interaction, Rheinland was EXTREMELY hostile. Everyone hated the corsairs more than anything else. Probably Skype hatred but still, you knew that if caught by Hessians, LWB, RM or all together, they'd unite against you and it would get hot. It added a certain 'spice' to raiding there and if I'm honest, I rarely went there as softer options were available. I doubt the server will ever get the RP back it used to have.
I sincerely wish you all good fun, and especially the would be corsairs and outcasts, to whom I wish good luck, and good hunting.
