Hearts and Minds

The Council has been preparing themselves silently in Champagne for a while now to be ready to strike on the Royalist forces when the opportunity arises and overthrow the monarchy in one swift takeover. The GRN drawing forces away from the Gallic Borderworlds into the Sirian Frontier signals the nearing of such opportunity, so as to ease the process of the takeover they began to spread their influence among the civilian population through anti-royalist propaganda as an attempt to shake the civilian support of the Crown even more. Since the Neural Net in Gallia is still under the control and censorship of the Crown, said propaganda is to be delivered through physical means, on datapads shipped to their intended destinations anonimously. While the first shipments are left unharmed, the actions of the Council doesn't go unnoticed, and it doesn't take too long for GRN to specifically look for transports carrying propaganda. After the first ships fell victim to the royalists The Council decides to assign escorts to the transports to ensure their cargo reaches it's destination intact.

Short summary:

A Taureau-class transport with Freelancer ID and IFF (Council affiliated, under incognito) carries 2500 units of Propaganda from a Council battleship, station or planet to a Gallic lawful space colony or planet, travelling along the lanes (not necessarily using them) until threatened with destruction.

Council forces are escorting it from afar and protecting it from GRN attacks. Before every event The Council will name three of the potential destinations and one of the potential departure points from which they'll chose at start.

Technical details:
  • Date and time of the next event: - - -
  • Location: Throughout the Kingdom of Gallia
  • Participants: GRN, Council, incognito transport. Optional: volunteer Taureaus for decoy. May be subject to change.
  • Only snubs for GRN and Council, only Taureaus for FL ID/IFF transports.
  • (Near) Equal numbers on each side without decoys, GRN is allowed to outnumber Council with max two snubs per decoy.
  • Minimal quota is 3+3+1 players for an event to start. Rule suspended.
  • Transports are to join in the lane system (if required) as soon as possible but no closer than one lane to an announced possible destination.

Objectives:
  • Council: If possible, try not to compromise the transport by showing up too close to it. Once compromised defend the transport at all costs.
  • GRN: Find and eliminate the transport carrying Propaganda, destroy it's cargo.
  • Transport: Survive and reach the destination with both ship and cargo intact. (Decoys: Kinda the same, but their destruction won't trigger the end of the event.)

Potential departure points:
  • Champagne
  • Evron Base
  • Vichy Base
  • Macon Base

Potential destinations:
  • Clermont Space Colony
  • Montlucon Space Colony
  • Saint-Quentin Space Colony
  • Saint-Etienne Space Colony
  • Planet Amiens
  • Planet Le Mans
  • Planet Mayenne
  • Planet Nevers
  • Planet Lyon
  • Planet Marseille
  • Planet Quillan

Prison Break

The Crown issuing Gallic Royal assets to be moved out from the Gallic Borderworlds to the Sirian Frontier has caused a significant decrease in prison security in the relevant areas. At the same time, to counter The Council's efforts to get more civilians involved in the civil war, the Government began executing political prisoners only to keep the civilian population at bay through inciting fear as well as making room for new prisoners. These two reasons led to the GRN beginning to carry some of the more important prisoners from the borderworld prisons into core space, but The Council would rather have them alive, free and supporting their cause and will try to do their best at freeing them.

Short summary:

A Taureau-class transport with Freelancer ID and IFF (GRN affiliated, but ready to surrender) carries 1000 units of Prisoners from a GRN battleship or prison station to either Orleans, New Paris or Fleury-Merogis Prison Station, travelling along the lanes (not necessarily using them) until threatened with destruction.

GRN forces are escorting it and protecting it from Council's attempts to take control of it. Before every event the GRN will name one of the potential destinations and four of the potential departure points from which they'll chose at start.

Technical details:
  • Date and time of the next event: Yet to be decided...
  • Location: Throughout the Kingdom of Gallia
  • Participants: GRN, Council, freelancer transport. May be subject to change.
  • Only snubs for GRN and Council, only Taureaus for FL ID/IFF transport.
  • (Near) Equal numbers on each side.
  • Minimal quota is 3+3+1 players for an event to start.
  • Transports can be captured by Council by shooting all of it's turrets off. Once captured, The Council can lead the transport into the safety of their own stations in any way. May be subject to change.
  • Once captured the GRN can't recapture, only shoot it down, but forbidden to do so unless it's under Council control. May be subject to change.
  • The transport is to prioritize it's own safety over anything else and act accordingly.

Objectives:
  • Council: Find and capture the transport carrying Prisoners by shooting it's turrets off and escort it to the nearest Council station possible.
  • GRN: Escort the transport to it's destination at all costs.
  • Transport: Survive and reach the destination with both ship and cargo intact. (Note: Destination depends on who's in control.)

Potential departure points:
  • Battleship Arles
  • Battleship Epinal
  • Battleship Montmorency
  • Battleship Venissieux
  • Battleship Ambazac
  • Battleship Beuvray
  • Battleship Le Cendre
  • Battleship Nogent-le-Rotroi
  • Battleship Rocroi
  • La Fere Prison Station
  • Chateau d'If Prison Station

Potential destinations:
  • Fleury-Merogis Prison Station
  • Planet New Paris
  • Planet Orleans

Participants of the next event:
  • [C]-Simon.Marseille, Stellion (if not Agama) - MrPupipopo
  • [C]-Gus.le.Chasseur, Stellion - KaiserDietz

  • GRN|Jean-Paul.Bourdeau, Lynx - John Wildkins

I love the ideas, and certainly would be interested in participating (subject to FR4), but the one thing I noticed is: doesn't the Vache technically have too large of a hold to be permissibly flown with a Freelancer ID?

Or is that exception covered in the "don't try to sanction people for doing event-related things" bit?

Taureau or maybe a Serenity might be good options for Freelancer ship if Vache doesn't meet FL ID requirements.

Kinda the problems I had to face with the Gallic corporate shipline is that there are no ships in the ~2k cargo hold category. The Serenity is a Sirian vessel while the Taureau is more of a military transport / battletransport, would fit the GRN, but not too much The Council, and I totally forgot the cargo restrictions of the FL ID. I intended to have the same ship for both sides as these two events were meant to be the mirrors of each so both sides are able to experience the challenges of taking out a tradeship or defending it. However as there are already slight differences, giving Serenities to Council and Taureaus to GRN (or to both and no Sirian ships) could work however. Opinions?

Well, Council are now located within Sirius, so wouldn't it follow that they were able to pickup and use some Sirian ships?

Would also follow that they were able to get their hands on some Taureaus if, for example, a ship commander decided to defect and took it with him?

So, there's certainly plausibility to find either ship in use, depending on how you want to approach it.

IMO, Taureau fits both requirements, is Gallic in origin, and isn't seen enough in-game, so I would vote for its use.

Love the writeup.

About the transports: perhaps I would consider going for smaller ones that can't be snacced so easily when caught. 3,6k transports would pretty much always be dead when caught inside hostile territory without a chance for the defending escorts. But a small transport would be able to a) dodge some snacs and b) also get some pewing-fun.

Hope the events are a success!!!

Jack

And I don't want to use freighters, they are just too good at escaping. But if you have any ideas on transports ships of Gallic origin smaller than the Taureau, I'm all ears.

The Rock Badger provides a slightly smaller alternative.

Although very clearly a ship designed for mining, it does work inRP, at least for the Council side. It will have been received from sympathizers in GMS, and chosen for its ability to blend in with common commercial traffic, as opposed to the Taureau, which may stand out cruising around near trade lanes.

As for the Gallic lawful side, it would only make sense for the Rock Badger to be chosen should they also be aiming for discrete transport, and thus have the desire to blend in with common commercial traffic. If it is to be visibly escorted though, then such is obviously not the case.

The Rock Badger is a mining ship, it would look werid and highly suspicious docking on space colonies or prison stations.
