After trading for a couple of days, I have enough money for un up-size transport(4700). Realizing that my Freelancer ID has a hard restriction on max cargo space, I sat confused for several minutes.
I had no idea what to do.
I'm a quasi-lawful trader at heart. I like having my options, and staying neutral. I also like smuggling for when trading gets too dull. A faction ID that came to mind was the junkers, they also have a cargo cap nowhere near what I want, same with zoners, etc.
I was just wondering if there were any organizations that I'm overlooking..?
Because as is, I fly a pirate train or whatever, or I join an organization. I don't like affiliations, especially ones that cause a lot of hostility toward me. House corporations force me to have a home, I don't get to wander, and I have to to deal with, and far as I'm concerned, other people's problems. Are there inRP reasons for these restrictions, or are they just incentive to join a corporation, or what?
I see no reason for a smuggler to not be able to purchase a "Civilian Transport", or even just a lawful indie trader. I understand that some ships could require certain "prerequisites" such as special permissions or certifications that could be included in a corporation ID, while at the same time I see little to no reason why a "Freelancer" isn't free to lance wherever and however I want, it's just silly to me. I was just wondering if anyone could offer clarification as to why these limits exist, and what my options are.
Please feel free discuss the current ID system as well.
It's a matter of pros and cons. You want the upside of flying a go anywhere freelancer ID, then you get the downside of a cargo restriction. You want to fly with a corporate ID, thereby limiting yourself to where you can dock, then you get to fly a 5ker.
If Freelancer ID'd players got to fly 5kers, then no one would fly a corporate ID. Bottom line, you can't have everything you want. You have to take the good with the bad, no matter what you choose.

I guess I just didn't want to accept that, shoot.
Are there inRP reasons, just for curiosities sake?
Technically, you can consider plenty RP reasons for this limit, but just like many ID limitations or perks, it is mostly due to balance reasons.

I honestly don't understand it either. People would still play in factions, simply for the reason of RP. When you take away choices, you therefore limit RP and hold players hands. I would love to fly around in a Titanic civilian tanker as a freelancer.
I know this isn't the place, but is there any way a new ID could be made? It would basically just be the freelance trader ID from old but with the benefit of larger cargo hold, and negative of being rep hacked red with pirates. Call it the Corporate Hauler ID or something, you basically sub-contract to companies (like IC, USI, BOWEX, ETC) when they get to much of a work load.
IRL my father is a truck driver and I am getting my license here soon as well, he has hauled everything from lead shot, to multi million dollar crane components, he works for whichever company will pay good and owns his own business. To be honest I have ALWAYS from day one wanted aN ID or faction like that.
Let me tell you the groosome tale of the Zoner Guard ID.
Back in 4.84, which was around 2008, we had such an ID.
The Zoner Guard ID, unlike the Zoner ID, allowed for battlesihips and cruisers, but also allowed 5k transports.
Every...single...trader...was a Zoner. Apart from being allowed to go anywhere and everywhere, they were ''neutral'' and often caused huge amounts of drama on the forums when they got pirated. This was enough for the changes to be implemented- there would be no universal trading ID.

That is why I suggested to rephack the baddies to red
It still would make no one want to fly corp IDs since even though the supposed freelance hauler ID would be rephacked to unlawfuls they would still be able to fly fairly unrestricted. It is just a matter of balance.
