I know that it feels strange to receive the transmission from unknown or a barely known person at this late evening, but I hope that I won't break the rules of propriety with this one. I think you will read at least the half of it just out of curiosity and I will try to make you to read this short message until the end. I just want to discuss a few things with you, I'm sure that educated person like you won't mind a good discussion.
There is a lot of problems within and outside Malta, I'm curious if we can find a common ground regarding these challenges. I think those days people are start forgetting how important it is to just fairly talk to each other. Especially on Malta, I have a feeling that every child here is planning a lot of intrigues and have a dozen of detailed coup plans. It is the wise choice of free people to stay open-minded and meet the challenges well prepared.
Buonasera. I'm not sure what this all is about, Miss Loyola, but you have my attention. If you know who I am, you are most likely one of the back-stabbing plotters you mentioned, or you are like me, and have the best interests of Malta in mind. In this, I will give you the benefit of the doubt. In judging your competence, however, I shall not. I warn you, though, it is in your best interests to not disappoint me.
Now, with the pleasantries out of the way, what do you want from me?
Indeed I know who you are, this also makes me believe that you are able to see beyond your nose, unlike most of those. Being a back-stabbing plotter is only a skill and all depends on how you use it. And no, I'm not afraid to disappoint you or something. In my life I did everything that I considered right without looking on how others will react on it. It's probably a reason why I have such a horrible reputation in some circles, but as pure-blooded Maltese you understand for sure that freedom costs a lot. Unfortunately my family is impoverished in the last century and I'm only family member who remained alive. Yet I won't let anyone to belittle my status, given to me by birthright, only because my family was less fortunate than the others. I do not regret about my financial situation, it's still far away from bad.
I don't want anything from you, but honesty, I know that's a lot. Even if you are not going to be honest with me, because quite frankly you don't have a reason to, be honest with yourself. I'm calling you, because I'm concerned about the fate of our Planet and Nation as the whole. I know that maybe sounds odd and childish, it is far from typical Maltese elite way of thinking. I'm not blaming anyone for thinking of their own profit in the first place, once again, I'm flesh and blood of this system myself. I'm asking you to look around Malta and guess what happen in even close perspective. And sadly you will see that scenarios will be rather negative. Then I'm asking you if we are responsible for it? Then I'm asking if people like us have enough intelligence and capabilities to figure it out?
When we have internal and external crisis, when the Nation is slowly fading, I think that would be fair to at least talk about fairly. I think your personal concern about it is suppose to be natural, because if in perspective Malta will burn, we will lose everything. I do realize that it's an odd type of conversation for the late evening, but in the same time I'm sure that both of us have time and rather quiet surroundings.
A noble is more than his riches, signora. If your heart and soul are in the right place, then right actions will also follow. I admit that I am concerned for the fate of the Contari, but this is in large part because I am concerned that others are not as apt guardians of la nazione as we could be. Anyone who was around when we usurped the Ghosts and their stranglehold on the Council of Dons and foreign relations will tell you that we are — were — capable.
Regardless, it's plain to see that isn't the case. This is why I have thrown my lot in with the Cross, heretics though they may be. If I can steer them to the right path, and help ensure their assets are used in the way that yields the most good for the nation, then so I shall, and God will judge me as he may for sullying the honor of mi famiglia by consorting with them at all in the first place.
In short, signora Loyola, I do believe that I have the resources to make things happen, if only it can be determined what the best course of action to affect would be.
I am really glad to see that we are understanding each other. To be honest I was somehow afraid starting this, but now I see wise point in your reasoning. I want to say that I have no magical plan to overcome the crisis. I would probably look like an idiot if just said that I have one. I am just the person who thinks that things can be changed by a will and determination.
Contari and other families are suffering a crisis, somehow talented and smart personalities have lost all their faith, determination and motivation. This is the negative phenomenon and I can only guess what exactly can cause it. I believe that there is no point to lamenting in nostalgia and regret about something that sadly didn't happen. When a bunch of opportunities are still open and nobody knows why they are not taken yet. We can return to our glory, power and faith. But we can't return it without a hard work.
As for the Cross, I'm really biased here after what Cross did to me and my family. I've heard the rumors that you had some contacts with them, but it was hard to believe it. Cross may look as the only position of power now, but it isn't sharing Maltese traditions of holding power. Their style is odd and I believe you know this even better than me. From what I've seen Cross is trying to subordinate old families, barely sharing real power with them. Many believes that Cross is the reason of current crisis, but once again, my discourse on this topic will be dictated by deeply personal reasons.
I would rather say that the current state of affairs in Malta is a cause of a continual lack of good fortune – while obviously I speak from my own heart here, the best thing to happen to the nation since the rise of Jameson was the rise of the Contari, and aside from that, things have mostly been downhill in recent years. I will blame no one individual, besides perhaps Luke Orsini, and instead offer only words of thanks to God for our people somehow having survived as well as we have despite the storm that is Sirius beating at us with ever-increasing vigor.
Are you familiar with ancient history, signora Loyola? I am. Much of my time at the Contari estate near Torino was spent studying such matters. The two civilizations from ancient times whose names most echo in our memory are those who contributed the most to the cultural formation of our people's ancestors, and thus to us. Antica Grecia e antica Roma. The ancients did not think of "progress" as we do – they saw progress as a return to a past, bygone golden age, rather than an inevitable march forward characterized by innovation, as it is most commonly viewed today.
In this, I find myself sympathizing with them. The... "new fashions" of the Crimson Cross have resulted in much incompetence and suffering, and the entire organization is filled with those who use their strange, heretical practices as a cover to justify their own greed, much recalling the prefaces to the reformations which changed the face of human religion forever, all their abuses included.
The Cross is the sick man of Malta. I do not know what it is they had done to your family, but whatever you could tell me, I doubt it would surprise me very much. I believe we are essentially in agreement on this matter – returning to the older styles of administration that are usually considered nothing more than curiously antiquarian these days would do Malta's children unimaginable good.
If you excuse me I won't speak of what the Cross did to my family here. It is not the matter of trust personally to you or a poor manners. I am just not a feeling like discussing it like this, by using comms. It is something that I would like to discuss in the private conversation face-to-face in the case if you will be interested. I do really hope that you will understand me on this one.
I can understand your aversion of the Crimson Council's politics, but it is important to maintain the composure, foresight and do not let emotions to take over. Even despite the heart is hurts by the injustice and wickedness that are keep happening around us. We know ourselves and we know our rivals, ins't it enough to act successfully and turn the whole situation in our favor?
I can see great determination in your words, I have a high hopes that we will continue to find the common ground in a future. Do you mind against the personal meeting, I think we will let us to be even more open to each other and it will be better in terms of safety. I am not paranoid, but I think that my best intentions are clear and obvious to you.
I would be pleased to arrange such a meeting. I understand the value of face-to-face discussion – these days it seems neural-net communication is sufficient to establish trust and justify the exchange of billions of credits, but that leaves a sour taste in my mouth. A simple, in-person conversation between educated women would be a refreshing change of pace. I would welcome you to my own villa outside of Nuovo Firenze any time within the next week, if it pleases you.
I appreciate your hospitality along with the sobriety and clarity of your mind. For sure I will find the proper time to pay you a visit. My assistant will contact yours so details will be discussed later, since my timetable is usually quite changeable.
