A Brief History of The Galactic Spanning Corporation...
The Galactic Spanning Corporation (GalSpan) was built from the ground up by founder Martin Richardson, a native of the Colonial Republic. Founded in 820 A.S. on New Hope East as a private company, GalSpan has since become a public corporation, with stock options available to the public and GalSpan employees. GalSpan takes pride in its Colonial roots, helping to build Colonial infrastructure and providing jobs to Colonial citizens, although it is not a Colonial Republic company. The Galactic Spanning Corporation lives by its slogan: "Your future... Today."
The GalSpan Family.
• GalSpan Board – As a public company, the majority shareholders guide GalSpan through regular board meetings.
• Director – Martin Richardson; The founder of The Galactic Spanning Corporation and the current Director who meets with the GalSpan Board members, and oversees GalSpan’s projects.
• Assistant Director – Tricia Bales; The immediate emissary for GalSpan, whose duties include meeting and negotiating with other business associates, making public announcements on behalf of GalSpan, and assisting Director Richardson in managing GalSpan projects.
GalSpan Objectives.
• To further expand The Galactic Spanning Corporation’s business and zone of influence.
• To aid the Colonial Republic by expanding their infrastructure and providing more opportunities to Colonial citizens.
GalSpan’s Business Model.
GalSpan is a multifaceted Corporation with multiple revenue sources.
• Trading in cargo through the GalSpan Merchant Division.
• Allowing GalSpan’s Armed Forces to accept legitimate mercenary/escort contracts.
• Fulfilling construction contracts for the Colonial Republic; primarily housing & building construction for colonization.
• Research and development, specifically of planet Yuma’s flora.
• Exporting locally grown produce from planet Yuma in the Colonial Republic. (In Progress)
• Constructing a private shipyard to fulfill contracts to both the Colonial Republic and to other legitimate sources. (In Progress)
GalSpan Merchant Division.
The majority of GalSpan’s profits are acquired through legitimate trade. Transport ships move whatever cargo is currently in demand.
• General Manager – 1 Position Available; The principal member of the Merchant Division, and the parallel to the Admiral. This individual serves to maintain coherency among the Merchant Fleet, lead any convoys, and to help collect the annual tribute from the other Captains of the merchant fleet. The Commissioner reports to Director Richardson, with copies of reports being forwarded to the GalSpan Board.
• Captain – Unlimited Positions Available; The leader of a ship of small transport size and higher. The title of Captain requires a ship with a cargo hold capacity greater than 1,500 units.
• Pilot – Unlimited Positions Available; A new recruit and a member of the Merchant Division who currently does not have a transport with a cargo capacity of at least 1,500 units. If the Pilot does not have an adequate vessel upon enlistment with GalSpan, a short-term loan for the value of a transport with a cargo hold between 800 and 1,000 units will be granted. Advancement to Captain status will become available upon complete payment of the loan, and once the recruit has earned enough to purchase a larger vessel.
GalSpan Armed Forces.
GalSpan’s Armed Forces serve two primary functions, as well as a third secondary function.
1) To serve as the military arm of GalSpan. In this capacity, they protect GalSpan interests from hostile attacks. This includes patrolling GalSpan infrastructures and zone of influence, guarding research vessels, and escorting ships registered to the Merchant Division. Their duties range from escorting merchant ships, jumping through systems to scout for potential threats, acting as decoys in defense of other non-combatant GalSpan ships. GalSpan Armed Forces also carry out missions assigned to them by Director Richardson and/or the Admiral, which may also include assaults against enemy forces and installations.
2) To serve as contract pilots to any lawful parties who may require GalSpan Armed Forces services. GalSpan Armed Forces Operators and Commanders are free to take contracts, so long as they don’t contradict GalSpan or Colonial Republic interests.
3) To aid the Colonial Military in defense of Coronado space.
• Admiral – 1 Position Available; The highest ranking commander in the armed forces, and the parallel to the Commissioner. The Admiral reports to Director Richardson, with copies of reports being forwarded to the GalSpan Board.
• Commander – Five Positions Available; Commanders are in charge of ships requiring a crew, specifically capital ships (Gunboat and higher). They serve under the Admiral.
• Operator – Unlimited Positions Available; A single pilot or the lead pilot of any class of snub ship, or personal freighter. They serve under the Admiral, and can also receive orders from Commanders in the field.
Pay Scale & Merchant Division’s Monthly Dues.
Although monthly dues are preferred, they are not a requirement of employment with The Galactic Spanning Corporation.
• Captain's of GalSpan’s Merchant Division may pay their monthly dues of 50 million credits.
• Pilots of GalSpan’s Merchant Division may pay their monthly tribute of 10 million credits.
These dues help fund research and development, as well as deliver paychecks to GalSpan Armed Forces, and offer bonuses for completed missions assigned.
Security Division Pay Scale.
In order to receive a regular paycheck, GalSpan’s Armed Forces must provide at least 5 hours of monthly service.
• Operator – 6 million credits per month.
• Commander – 15 million credits per month.
• Admiral – 30 million credits per month.
Bonuses are issued for successful missions.

GalSpan Ships & Equipment
• The GalSpan Merchant Fleet are limited to generic civilian, house civilian (based on Captain’s Origins (if using an existing character)), Colonial Republic (With Approval), and Border world ships.
• The GalSpan Armed Forces are primarily snubs from the previously listed available ships and anti-snub Gunboats; typically CTE-12400 “Condor”, Series Z “Montante”, and the “Hydra” Colonial Gunboats (With Approval). The “Pelican” Civilian Armored Transport is also acceptable.
• A single “Thanatos” Cruiser class ship makes the Flagship of GalSpan. This ship (which will come with Official status) will be acquired through in-game SRP with the Colonial Republic. (Clarification: A person with an SRP ship who joins GalSpan keeps their origin story, character name, and ship, though the ship itself will need to be renamed.)
• Ship weaponry should coincide with the respective Captain’s ship classification and origins. Generic or Border World ships use legal civilian weaponry and equipment.
GalSpan Naming & Tagging
All ships hired by GalSpan will have the tag "GalSpan|" in front of their name (with quotations removed). The following are tags placed at the end of your name to specify your rank.
General Manager- \GM/ (Oversees the entire Merchant Division.)
Manager- \M/ (Assists in operating a portion of the Merchant Division for the General Manager.)
Admiral - \AD/ (Oversees the entire Armed Forces.)
Supervisor- \S/ (Leads employees directly in the field. This applies for the Merchant Division & Armed Forces.)
Employee- \E/ (A typical GalSpan employee, without direct authority over other employees. This applies for the Merchant Division & Armed Forces.)
Since we don't allow direct imports (Rule 2.4), you may want to change some things around concerning this. The organization name, the logo, and even the director is a direct copy of GalSpan from Tachyon: The Fringe, as seen here: http://tachyon-the-fringe.wikia.com/wiki...orporation.
Good writeup, but I'd suggest tuning it a bit to not be a direct import/ripoff.
GalSpan was the inspiration, and using the director's name was a nod to the fact that I (the writer) loved Tachyon. We altered necessary GalSpan traits already to prevent it from being outright plagiarism. For example, we are not a mining corporation, and the Director's first name was made up, so it is not a direct import; it is officially a modified homage. The symbol was also made by me, and only inspired by the original GalSpan symbol. I changed it from a blue planet to a blue gemstone using a beveling effect, and made a silver chain instead of the dark ring, which was supposed to be an asteroid ring.
If you require something small, such as a mild character name change, let us know.
Edit: Props for being a fan of Tachyon though. I wasn't expecting anyone to remember that game.
I'll chat with the other admins to see their thoughts. Just I know we're a hesitant on imports that borrow heavily from another source, and while you altered the logo, it's still the same shape/design. I think the combo of the same name, the same name (minus the moving of one letter), and the same design of logo could be considered a direct import, even if the writeup has been altered.
On a personal note, I'm a fan of the writreup. Will be interesting to meet you guys in space.
Also, I played a TON of Tachyon. Loved that game, especially with Bruce Campbell as Logan. I still wish you could fly the Enforcer ship ingame...
Alright. Well I can change Director Atkins name to something else. Perhaps Director Richardson? I could also change the coloration of the logo, but making a new logo would take another couple of hours of work that I'd rather not do unless I absolutely had too. So long as I don't have to edit out "GalSpan" from everything, we can make it work.
I'm glad you like the write-up though. Call me crazy, but I always wanted to fly the Darts and Piranhas, not to mention Baron Hajod's cool looking ships. Star Patrol was cool too.
Alright. We've taken the initiative to change the logo to a new one I whipped up (using GalSpan and Bora colors) and Director Atkins has been renamed to Martin Richardson. I've updated all of our posts, and I hope that will suffice, and allow us to move forward.
