History:
--In the Beginning--
Born on Planet Denver to a middle class family, Rhys had a fairly uneventful childhood, until one day, his parents split up. Being quite young at the time, he didn't see the split coming and was quite thrown by it, becoming withdrawn and sullen. With only his mother's income to support them, times were rough, but they managed to get by. They lived out their days in relative peace, and sometimes comfort until, while working at the local Orbital Spa and Cruise Resort, his mother Ashley met a Kishiro employee on vacation, Tanaka Maeda. They grew quite close during his stay on Planet Denver, and once he had to leave, they stayed in touch over the neural net.
Tanaka came back to the resorts on Denver whenever he could get the time off from upper management, and eventually asked Ashley to come live with him back on Planet Honshu. She agreed and along with Rhys, they packed everything up and moved to Kusari. Moving from the relative freedom of a single-parent family to a bustling and strictly run Kusari household was drastic change for Rhys, who become more rebellious and stand-offish with age. In his early teens it wasn’t uncommon for him to run off into the city and disappear for the weekend, only to return later, with a few new scars and smelling of sake.
Ashely and Tanaka, worried that he was falling in with the wrong crowd, such as back-street thugs or even some of the pirate groups around Kusari doing their planetside dirty work, sent Rhys to a boarding school, where his every move was watched. This immediately clashed with Rhys love of freedom and hatred of being confined. He was a constant trouble maker, inciting fights in the cafeteria and constant escape attempts. He started to gain a reputation for being very crafty and ingenious with his plans, eventually being able to lead the staff and many students on wild-goose chases and running circles around them in his plans.
After one to many escape attempts, this last time using a crate of Sake that no-one knows how it got past the security guards and a remote-controlled animatronic skeleton stuck in one of the cleaners closets, Rhys was expelled and sent back to his parents.
Naturally, they were very disappointed, hoping that the constant watchful eye of the school would be able to right his wayward habits. However, he was now even more a trouble maker, leading them on many pranks and still running off most weekends, now coming back with less scars and heaving pockets, full of almost certain ill-obtained credits, most of which was either spent on Sake or funding his little pranks and escapades.
One morning, his parents woke to a surprisingly quiet household. At first, they merely thought that Rhys had run off for the weekend again and notified the police as usual. However, this quickly changed when Tanaka realised his personal ship, an Eagle civilian fighter, was missing from the landing pad. They rushed to ring the police again, and were told that the ship was last seen entering the Galileo system, and flying very erratically.
Pulling some strings and calling in some favours with old friends, Tanaka had a wing of Kusari Naval Force pilots sent out the try and find him, before he was waylaid by any of the dangers outside of house space. They never caught up to him, as he had too much of a lead on them and the search was called off once a transport convoy said they had seen him flying into the Reppu cloud, and still flying very erratically, dangerously so. That was the last his parents heard of him for a long time.
