Of course that would probably only be possible if IDs in the database tables didn't get overwritten or something after the purge. I'm not an expert here though, never did any MyBB administrating.
I don't do DB snapshots anymore as I now do the backups at instance level.
Basically I'd have to set up a whole new instance with duplicated volumes just to retrieve a few posts.

All I can say is.. Yikes. >_>
Hardcore. Granted. But then again. The purge was hardcore as well.
The rule of thumb of MyBB is that "delete" actually means delete and there is no bringing back posts which have been deleted this way from the MyBB itself. This is why good practice is to hide the posts or move them to a separate forum section instead of deleting.
//edit: I mean i guess this is self explanatory but yeah.

Whoever made the decision to press the delete button on multiple years of roleplay, knowing full well that delete means delete, should absolutely, unambiguously be themself permanently banned from the community. I legitimately cannot believe that this was determined to justify what was done to @"Sanja" and seriously question the motives of the people responsible. The idea that two one-line joke posts on a topic that, as the admins have already said, the community as a whole has come to a consensus on, could ever possibly be construed to warrant such a serious punishment, is infeasible to me, and reeks of "we wanted an excuse to get rid of someone" (pretty much A Heavy Decision 2.0).
Should I be afraid of putting in effort for my characters, or of participating in long-term [HF] or Kishiro| projects? Should I be afraid to participate even incidentally in the roleplay of others for fear that my tendency to criticize the administration will result in my own posts being irrecoverably deleted and the stories that I helped to craft being rendered null and void? How could anybody possibly trust the administration now, after having seen them be so utterly careless with the heaviest punishment they can possibly bestow?

I think spudders didn't realise that the purge option was intended for spambots, making a mistake thinking where Shiki's posts could be restored.

Mistakes were made.
I would direct you to the following:

Spazzy could not have possibly not known very well what he was doing, and if it really was just a mistake, then one of this magnitude is simply not something that can ever be allowed to happen again. Sometimes, "sorry, I messed up" doesn't come even remotely close to cutting it.
No, as already said, I know what it did and what it was used for. The reason why I suggested it as a form of punishment for this offense was because I thought that with the new backup system in place after the recent forum loss scare, that it was -reversible-. It still would have been an extremely harsh sanction, but it was carried out with that in mind - that there was a way to restore it.
During the time of voting on the sanction, the fact that Sanja posted this right after a moderator and an admin-green warning that this would happen was seen by us as a ''ye whatcha gonna do'' move more than anything else. So the button was pressed.
I know full well that an "sorry I messed up" apology is really not enough here, but I really do not have much else to offer but that, dude.
