Quote:2.6 - Every character must have only one type of ID equipped and must play according to the role and restrictions of that ID. Additional restrictions may be highlighted in red on ship, commodity, and equipment infocards. If ID restrictions and allowances conflict with the server rules, the ID overrides the rules (except 2.8 and 3.4).
Consequences:
You need to make sure you understand your ID before attacking others.
If you require evidence, you may request such via PM from a Staff member. Only the accused or an official faction leader of the accused person's faction may request such. Once you have the evidence, and if you wish to dispute it, you may post in the Sanction Thread below. Do not continue PM'ing a staff member, as that will result in your Appeal being denied. If you PM a staff or post in the sanction thread and you are not directly involved, you are consenting to be subjected to the reprisal of my choice which may involve in game repercussions up to a ban. Blaming members of your immediate family, neighbors, friends, pets, and assorted Orcs, Trolls and any other legendary creatures may result in the use of GM Right #CTE 750AE

Firstly, there is nowhere in the rules (that I can find) that states that unmentioned or unspecified subjects are to be considered negative. I personally took this to mean "don't abuse things, make it make sense". As per his story as I put in the RP feedback thread, and ingame encounters, and as portrayed by his IFF, Wellerman is Planetform in affiliation, and former BAF. As a Planetform Researcher, Wellerman reserves the right to defend Planetform allies, such as Bretonian Corporations and Bretonian Law Enforcement when found to be under attack, which is how I found that gunboat when I engaged. Nowhere in the rules, nor in the ID, have I found that Researchers may not engage, and I've already stated that there is nowhere in the rules that states that unspecified subjects are to be considered as a resounding "no". Nowhere in the Researcher ID have I seen a limit to Researcher ID ZOI, and so I state that the Researcher ID ZOI is infinite.
I stand by my decision to defend and assist allies under rule 2.8. It has been made clear in multiple places that this character is a Planetform pilot. There was no bounty, so it does not violate the researcher ID's restrictions. The character has a Researcher ID for the purposes of event mining bonuses and Roleplay, given that his job is to go to dangerous space to acquire research, and return it to Cambridge or Planet Harris.
Quote:2.8 - All IDs can:
Claim rewards for kills within their Zone of Influence on bounty boards.
Attack Nomads and Wild ID ships within their own Zone of Influence.
Attack Nomads and Wild ID ships to defend allied or neutral ships outside their own Zone of Influence. Attack others to defend allied ships within their own Zone of Influence.
Attack others in self-defence.
Defend ships of the same affiliation anywhere except in cruisers or above outside of ZOI.
If I read between the lines correctly, as the pilot of the (un)lucky gunboat that was assisted, I have never perceived any rule being broken here.
To whoever reported Godslayer: please stop playing sanctionlancer, and just play the damn game. Yes, Godslayer comes off as a troll in the forums at times, but he's a good RPer in-game.
Given the nebulosity of the rules and ID lines involved, I'd say this sanction is unwarranted. Yes, technically we were not in a group (and Researcher ID is neutral to BAF) but he stated clearly that he's Planetform, former BAF and carried a Planetform IFF, and played to that character.
In case it was unclear before by any means, I will clarify now: I am officially disputing this sanction, and requesting it be reversed due to it being unwarranted, and no actual rules being broken. This is the result of someone unhappy with RP consequences, and has neither basis nor place in the roleplay universe.
I understand that it takes a while for staff to process things, however, I have heard no counter-point in the course of 24 hours.
