We have attempted in the past to do player written story through a discord group, and the results were frankly appalling. It was nothing but a mess of arguing, lobbying purely for ones own faction, and Story "developments" which were nothing more than singular changes that did not fit into any proper narrative and were very short sighted. I know its ideal that players can help decide everything and we can have a super interactive story, but people are generally only invested in their own given faction, which creates very poor story development.
Have you ever considered giving people more guidance in how they are expected to behave as dev leads, OFLs, moderators, and admins?
You know... small things like
- "don't f*** other people over"
- "if you want to be an official faction, you are required to care for the well being and interests of indies and other factions as well"
- "here is a list of things someone in your position can do and here is a a list of things you can't do"
- "here is how you are at least expected to try to behave"
- "as a dev/admin/OFL you should at the very least pretend to care for the players you are affecting"
I'm asking because for more than 10 years we have had "staff" and "leaders" who have obviously never even heard of such things. Instead we have geniuses who will say "just use common sense" as if it exists, let alone exists in disco, and then wonder why everything here looks like a burning clown car plowing through a crowd in a riot.
There are also numerous alternatives besides either "devs are dictators that keep everything secret until release" or "players dictate the story".
One would be "devs decide the over arching story and official factions are required to advise and assist them in it in a transparent process".

"Suggesting story with role play" is just as terrible an idea as deciding system or economy developments with role play (or hoping to) by making people write forum posts that they don't really want to write, that nobody really wants to read, and that nobody else will read once it's over. Role play should be for fun, not a chore that in the end only creates more unwanted work and wastes time that could be spent having real talk and doing things like writing infocards or thinking/talking about how things would work best in the mod.

Yup. Is called player request. Every lad can do it, you know.
Literally half the stuff I requested had something to do with an ID I only play as complete indie, but oh well. Seems we have to promote the ways every individual here can contribute a lot more. Did I mention player requests already?

Actually isn't this also possible through SRP? No seriously, I feel like it is. Probably as tedious as Core 5 process for OFs.
No idea though, I own one but that isn't my achievement.
