Battlecruiser Haruna - 7th Major Fleet "Komainu"-class Battlecruiser Status:Active
Basic history and assigned task(s):
One of the last Komainu-class battlecruisers put into service by the Republic of Kusari, the Haruna saw little action for the majority of the Civil War, instead taking on a defensive post in close proximity to the New Tokyo Jump Gate. Due to Itto Kaisa Fukumoto Iwao's -- initial CO -- decision to continue fighting after the ceasefire and ordering the Haruna to approach the Nagasaki and launch an attack, the crew, led by Santo Kaisa Shimoda Takahiro mutinied and took control of the warship, acting in concert with Imperial units.
During the boarding, no significant damage was taken to the exterior hull or weapon emplacements, but the bridge section had been hit by shots during the closing stages of the mutiny, in a skirmish between loyalists to Fukumoto and Imperial supporters. The personnel who supported the mutiny received amnesty; remainder of Iwao loyalists arrested.
Haruna returned to Kure for repairs and subsequently deployed as part of Nagasaki battlegroup until the onset of the invasion of Gallia. In Iwao's place, Itto Kaisa Mitsuo Akihiro was assigned as CO. Following Nagasaki's movement to Tau-23, Haruna moved to Tau-31. Several small skirmishes with Crayter Republic warships recorded; no significant damage taken.
The Haruna was hurriedly sent to Honshu after reports of a GMG skirmish with Kusari forces in Sigma-21, and remains in orbit of Planet Honshu. Its snubcraft often patrol the trade lanes across the system and venture into the nearby Sigma systems on joint patrols with the GMG, after negotiations had not veiled any results.
Despite rumours of Mitsuo and his new crew being fanatical supporters of the Empire and apparent preparations for the Haruna to break into Coronado to assault the home of the Tau-borne Republic during their presence in Tau-31, no evidence was found after an investigation. Nevertheless, these rumours still circulate through the lower ranks of the officer corps but remain largely groundless and unproven.
Escorting vessels:*
The Haruna has a larger snubcraft escort wing than other "Komainu"-class battlecruisers, but at the drawback of having no other capital warships as escort.
Approx. 10 Bomber crafts
Approx. 15 Snubcrafts of variable sizes
