To the endearing Clan Shimamori of Honshu, I bid you a warm welcome.
Let me briefly introduce myself. The name is Mizushima, Joshua Mizushima, son of Kyushu, but Kusari as a whole. I reach out my arms to you as a fellow concerned Kusari citizen. Recent turmoil has befallen our internal sectors - the livelihoods of Junyo and Kyushu are under unforeseeable threat. While the struggles of Junyo are not a new event, it has been steadily collapsing with time. Coupled with the disastrous climate spark of Kyushu, Kusari is on the brink of fate in these trying times.
However, a phenomenal breakthrough of the incredible minds of Honshu resulted in the unearthing of Ishigaki, an uncharted sector of space that intertwines a sprawling network of ambiguous star systems. The Naval Forces have prompted us great minds of Kusari to join them in expedition to the novel Ishigaki sector. In our numerous travels we have stumbled upon extraordinary sights, but more importantly, inconceivable materials of strangely biological nature.
One such curio has instantly set our sights - for it is something Kusari is deeply intimate with - Cryos. More accurately; Cryo Organisms. I am sure you have already made the connection but I will put it bluntly for transparency's sake, Kusari has, in an iconic spin of fate, encountered once more, potentially - no - unequivocally, a revolutionary micro-organism. One that is befitting to solve a problem.
Now, this is still in the early discovery stages. Samples have mostly been contained in Naval Forces facilities, and our intellectual throughput is too little for a project so grandeur. Amongst the difficult acquisition process of Cryos, this will prove to be a challenging prospect. As such, I formally extend an invitation to your excellent thinktank that is Tenmei University, we need to unite as Kusari brethren and secure a bright future for our people. Only by solving our internal, domestic issues, and through our endearing love towards the Emperor, can we recover from the catastrophic decline of past years. Only then we can set our eyes outwards to restore our influential domain upon the Sirius sector.
With the reassuring news out of the way, I must now bring the lesser ones. As I mentioned before Junyo is not a recent event, and our neglect towards it has come to an apex point. You can imagine our sudden belligerent neighbours - Gallia - were the culprit of veering our perception. Regardless, we must take action immediately. Junyo has prospered from the GMG-discovered Planet Kurile, which harbours the fertilisers we adore so much in our agricultural sectors. And while Kurile was acquired legally through GMG by Kusari, an unprecedented, bloody takeover happened a decade ago, effectively shutting down Kusari operations. As you can imagine, Junyo, and by extension, the whole of Kusari, is hurting from their actions. This is now further exacerbated, tenfold, by the Kyushu crisis.
But it is not too late to right a wrong. We believe your prestige is able to help Kusari in these trying times. As a son of Kusari, I implore you to reach out to your contacts.
Please, allow me first to apologise for the delay in replying to you. I have returned to Kusari proper only recently after taking care of the colony in the Chubu system for a few weeks.
The developments in Kyushu are truly concerning not only to the local stakeholders but to the whole of Kusari. Deterioration of the agricultural sector in the breadbasket of the Empire poses severe risks for the populace and economy. It is a matter that concerns all of us and my clan will not stand idly. You can count on my full support, Mizushima-san. The issue is already being discussed in the Diet and experts from all over the Empire are working in expert advisory groups to offer solutions to the situation we have at hand.
It appears you might have found something that can theoretically alleviate or solve the current food shortage. While relying on a regular supply of materials from yet unstably connected to our infrastructure Ishigaki sector might be challenging, dire times need dire solutions. I will pull my strings among the academia of Honshu to aid you in your efforts. For this to be effective, however, I want to ask you what "efforts" you are talking about and what steps you are planning to take. This will allow me to coordinate local resources more efficiently.
I am looking forward to hearing from you, Mizushima-san.
A pleasure to hear back from you. I hope all is going well within your colony despite house-wide food shortages.
Your peers most likely have updated you on the increased traffic through Honshu. While we were struggling for ideas, the Kishiro keiretsu inconsiderately circumvented the Diet and enacted out of their own volition with Libertonian gaijin - Synth Foods. As we speak, Narita Outpost is accepting shipments from Synth and Kishiro transports carrying Synth-produce, and exporting Kusari-robotics back to Rheinland, no doubt used to further conglomerate the Synthetic Foods industry.
Initially, one might think that this veiled step is of a benevolent nature, feeding the hungry in times of shortage. Although, it seems they have not calculated the risks involved in such a bold business move. Pirate ships have been assaulting transports in both Kusari and Rheinland lanes, not to mention making the Sigma road an even more brutal place to pass through. Radical ideologists have sprung in defiance of this notion, demanding not even credits or cargo - but immediate destruction of transports. I will not even bring up the health risks involved in consuming Synth-products, as studies from Kyushu University have made that clear decades ago.
I will give my benefit of the doubt to Kishiro Technologies on this matter. What I am going to suggest is that they should deviate their attention towards the Gas Miners Guild. For I did not recollect the Kurile incident for no reason. Kyushu and Junyo need those Alien Organisms, the entirety of Kusari depends on that. I merely ask that they allocate some of Kurile's exports towards Kusari. Because let us be blunt, Miura is a century-long effort, we will not hinder their progress - much.
Should any three of you bring light of such a fruitful endeavour, Samura will look to providing an amicable agreement that benefits the involved parties as a reward for their cooperation. Maybe a christening of the newly designed Amaterasu-class liner towards the helpers? Is one such idea, if it entices.
It is important to note that Samura is willing to hear any offer that they might consider putting on the table.
I understand the predicament with the alien organisms and Kurile. In the past, I have dealt with the GMG both privately and as a representative of the Empire. They leave an impression of very stubborn, irrational even, individuals, who put too much emphasis on their "independence" and disregard the trade relations and dependency that allows such independence to exist in the first place. This said, I do not have high hopes for the GMG but will try contacting them nevertheless, either through a Kishiro liaison or directly.
In the meantime, I will allocate more private funds to Tenmei University's hydroponics project. So far, hydroponics have served us well in Chubu. The project can be scaled up, all you need is energy, water, seeds, and qualified labour to take care of the system. I am certain that Kyushu has plenty of all of the above. We will also continue investigating if the native to Chubu lichen has any practical applications, either as compost and fertiliser or as food. It would be a waste to ignore it - there is simply too much of this lichen all over the planet.
I will let you know of the developments, Mizushima-san, once I have any results, and I hope the latter to be positive.
