My laptop suffered a catastrophic failure of pretty much every component but the optical drive earlier this week, so I've been trying to get the game up and running on a spare laptop. The only difference that I could see being relevant is that my old laptop was Vista Home Premium with this one being Home Basic. Both had UAC and firewalls disabled, and ran the latest version of AVG.
1. I can't get FAM to run. I get the following error message:
"Component 'ComDlg32.OCX' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid"
I've checked the System32 folder and the file is indeed there. I've tried replacement files from the Internet, and I've tried registering the file to no avail.
2. I can accept losing all my accounts yet again if I can at least start anew. However, when I finish updating Discovery to the latest version, I get an error indicating that the following files are missing:
Dacom.dll ; DAlib.dll ; Zlib.dll ; Movie.dll ; ImeUI.dll
I've tried copying them from the Freelancer CD, but then I get an error about not being able to open an open document.
3. When I run the game, I can see all the servers, but I can't connect to any of them.
I have installed everything the exact same way I did a few weeks ago on my now deceased laptop.
How are you updating - are you clicking on the exe in the FLMM mod folder? If you are, don't. Once the mod is installed, just run Freelancer and it will (should) update by itself.

After activation I tried both the DSUpdate and the regular Freelancer.exe (Each on clean installs). While the second doesn't cause any error messages, I still can't connect to any servers.
