The Omega 15 system is a relatively large, open pocket residing within the walker nebula - which surrounds it on all sides. it is a binary star system containing two Red Giant stars and two planets - one an acrid, dust covered desert world, completely uninhabitable; the other a terrestrial world containing an inhospitable atmosphere which renders it uninhabitable - though it may be possible to terraform the planet, the presence of pirates within the system at current date makes it an exceedingly dangerous proposition, and planetform has thus far ignored it as a potential candidate for their operations.
Approximately two-hundred years ago, Rheinland was engaged in an open war with the Independent Mining Guild. In an attempt to out-flank rheinland forces, the IMG stumbled into the omega 15 system - discovering to their surprise a top-secret installation orbiting planet Skagen. This installation, back then, was much like Alaska is today - a secret facility dedicated to the research of improved ship and weapon systems for the Rheinland Military.
Discovering this station, the IMG led a full out assault against it, completely destroying it in the process. As they attempted to exit the system through it's northern reaches after the victory, they encountered a contingent of the Rheinland fleet. Both sides lost incredible numbers of ships in the ensuing battle, as is evidenced by the 'unidentified' wreckage in the northern part of Omega 15.
After the battle, and the loss of their station, the Rheinland military completely closed off the system, wiping all records of it's existence from every database in their house territories. During it's time in 'exile', the system became a transit route for the corsairs - and they began attacking rheinland space once they found the jump hole leading into the Dresden system. The Rheinland military had 'forgotten' about Omega 15's existence after nearly two decades, and rediscovered the jump hole to the system when attempting to route out corsair raiding parties in dresden. The military quickly deployed Battleship Schwerin to guard the entrance to rheinland space, and to deploy scouting patrols into the far reaches of the system on exploration and seek-and-destroy missions.
Taking notice of the military's activity in dresden, Junkers operating out of Kreuzberg Depot followed the Schwerin into the system, maintaining safe distance until they were through to Omega 15. There, they discovered two substantial debris fields left over from an unknown incident occuring untold ages ago. Junkers werent the only other group who found the hole, however - Red Hessians soon followed, igniting brutal conflict with the corsairs in the area.
Junkers quickly moved more and more ships into the system, constructing a station near planet Skagen out of the wreckage of whatever used to exist there. From that station, Junker salvagers began collecting scrap and equipment in the area, and were soon wealthy enough to break off from Kreuzberg's control. Naming their station Bornholme Depot, the junkers of omega 15 became their own clan, just as each other junker base is run by one like-minded group.
The scrap fields of Omega-15 were unlike any others seen by junkers in the past, however. These fields contained leftover weapons, engines, and ship prototypes that had been under research by the Rheinland military at the station over two hundred years earlier. This equipment proved to be exceptionally valuable on the black market, rapidly funding Bornholme's development and at the same time improving the technology the junkers had access to. Among the wreckage was an alien fighter that had been recovered by the installation during it's operation - surprisingly still intact. From this ship, the Junkers of Bornholme began developing their feared Death-Scythe fighters for protection against the corsairs and hessians in the area.
Currently, Bornholme depot houses one of the wealthiest groups of junkers in all of Sirius. It is also the primary location of diplomacy dealings between the Junkers and Machine Units known as the Harvesters. Bornholme struck an alliance between harvesters and the rest of the junkers in sirius, offering repair and docking in exchange for protection.
Recently, activity in Omega-15 has increased tenfold as the junkers there - under the command of Christopher Thorn and his flagship, the Tenacity - provide raw material for the harvesters to construct additional ships.
' Wrote:Minor nitpick: I do believe you meant the Gas Miners Guild, or GMG, as opposed to the Independent Miners' Guild, or IMG. Still, jolly good show.
Nope, it's the IMG. It isnt very well known, but some of the infocards in omega 15 directly link to the IMG. It wasnt as large a war as the rheinland-GMG conflict, but it did happen.
Well, I'll be a son of a man and a woman who were in a long-term relationship based on mutual love and respect which eventually ended in a bitter divorce.

yea, if you want to see for yourself I think it's either the planet, debris field, or bornholme infocard that states it was the IMG conflict that caused the base to be destroyed. It doesnt give specifics - so I filled in with creativity where the infocards and such were vague.
I used to be a junker (when Helghast) so this is great stuff, Omega 15 always struck me as pretty exciting, but what are harvesters?
Btw, are you the main junker faction (Ie: do you own puerto rico)

The Harvesters are a faction lead by Scornstar. They're a fairly large faction made up of "robot" ships controlled by some kind of machine intelligence interface. The Harvesters focus on harvesting materials and waging war against outcasts. The materials they harvest include everything from ore and scrap metal from fields, to 'bio-matter' (basically squished up people) harvested from enemy ships. There is a treaty/alliance between the junkers and harvesters, we dont bother them and they dont harvest us, pretty much.
the junker's union never kept up, I'm not a great faction leader.
The Junker's Congress, lead by tinkerbell, is now official but has not purchased puerto rico yet.
