my grp ship gets paranoid everytime he can't see a trade lane when he's clearly within visual range, he's worried criminals might have destroyed it, then suddenly the trade lane appears when its in some 4-5k range but his superiors refuse to comment on whether they installed secret cloaking devices on the lanes just to troll criminals and patrol ships.
also in missions can npcs please spawn further away from the player, eg. 4k or something so that it doesn't appear like a bunch of poor farmers or xenos suddenly managed to outfit every one of their ships with cloaking devices.
Weird, this doesn't happen with regular Sirian lanes for me, haven't been to Gallia in forever. Check if it's just on Gallic lanes or on both. Gallic would probably mean an lod issue with the mod, both would mean you've some kind of clientside bug.
Higher draw distance also puts more pressure on the server in large fights (or high pop systems), which are laggy enough already. Yes, server and not just client. Sorry.
5k is a little nuts and gameplay breaking though I think. How many more polies/textures do they use compared to Sirian lanes? I could make a simpler model if it's an issue.
In case of trade lanes you can select them in 10-15k range easily so they don't need fixing IMO. All it might need is LOD adjustments to show up sooner.
Its only really trade lanes that do this, I've had no problem seeing player ships at more than 15k range (The ones big enough to actually visibly see at that range obviously), quite frankly I don't mind at what distance I can actually see the trade lanes so long as they appear before I get there so they work.
