So I made a previous post about the game crashing when my PC returns from stand by. I've come to the conclusion that it's not the sleep mode that's creating the problem.
The game runs fine when I turn on my PC from shut down. I can play freelancer to my heart's content once. However, if I have to quit the game for some reason, I have to restart my PC altogether or it crashes to desktop and gives me the unhelpful error "Freelancer.exe has stopped working".
The game crashes after I've selected my character, am loading it and a notice comes up that says something like "The requested operation is taking longer than expected". Then that notice gets flooded with white light emanating from the center and the game crashes.
Queer things I've noticed:
-When starting the game, I enter a screen that's partially filled with what looks like bright ambient white and green light that starts flashing uncontrolably (thank heavens I don't have epilepsy)
-The game refused to start when I first installed it. I searched the forums and realized that teamspeak overlay must be unequipped. That solved the issue.
Any suggestions are welcome as I'm tired of constantly restarting my pc (which takes a while).
Figured out what the problem was a few weeks ago..
I followed OIIO's advice and re-installed it. This time, I unchecked the option for bloom effects..
Now it runs smoothly and without any problems.. I hope this will help others who are having problems with the bloom effect flooding the screen with light and then crashing
