820 A.S., 6 am New Berlin time, day period 126, Rheinland naval command headquarters, bounty and mission arrangement office 116:
"Good morning, Captain.", greetes the intelligence officer his boss while he salutes.
"Good morning, Lieutnant. Now, what do we got?", he answeres in a urgently tone of voice and salutes back.
"Sir?",
"The mercenary dossiers, do you got them?",
"This Thing...sure, I got them. I've seen them through and there aren't really promising candidates for the job to hire at the moment. Except of one. I got his file here. With due respect, sir but I still mean that this project is just a waste of financial resources of the military. We got so many well trained elite pilots who could do this job without the risk of treason and deserve a higher pay. Why should we hire scum like...",
"I understand your scepticism, Lieutnant. But we can't afford to waste our elite for such a maneuver. Don't forget that the upcoming attack is just a diversion to weaken their forces, attract them to the wrong position and unburden our main forces for the real strike. However, who is it? Just summarize it"
"Sure thing, sir.
Tayden Travis was born in the year 797 A.S. and raised in Rheinland on planet Frankfurt in a stable social environment. He's the son of a rhenish businesswoman, Laura Rohberg and a Liberty Navy fighter pilot, Raymond Travis, who often travelled through Rheinland and stopped by on the same planet during politicial VIP escorts on foreign-policy missions.
He also fought in the nomad war in Rheinland alongside with local pirates. After the nomad war his father lost the trust in the governments. it is believed that Tayden was moved to a unknown Zoner or pirate station somewhere in the borderworlds on the wish of his father. But soon his pa..."
"The hell. Why the Marinenachrichtendienst did collect all this useless informations?!",
"Because his father was a...",
"Foreigner, Stop it already. I know this by myself. This was a rhetorical question. Skip to the interesting part already.",
"Yes, sir.
With 18 he served voluntary in the military as fighter pilot. He had some problems with the counter-intelligence unit during the recruiting process because of the origin of his father...often attracted attention of the instructors because he carried out orders and solved problems different then ordered. Highly propable he already gained some libertonian combat skills, military and technically knowledge by his father, before his career. Observation by the Marinenachrichtendienst was increased when he was listed as a possible candidate as a sleeper agent in Liberty during the first politicial crysis between Rheinland and Liberty. All in all his career was exemplary. He participated succesful in countless operations against astronautic piracy.
When the politicial tensions went military his father was believed one of the first casualties of the war. As soon as Tayden did get the MIA message he didn't extended his enlistment contract and was honorably discharged. So he left the military after three years of service. Observation through the Marinenachrichtendienst was kept on even after his career anyway. It was believed that he was emotionally compromised and made the military responsible for the death of his father. However, the truth is that Raymond Travis and his squadron was ambushed and shot down by unknown order pirates on a secret Navy mission against the order.
When Tayden found that out later himself he joined the bounty hunters. From there on he was described by bounty hunter comrades and buddies as cold, calculating, reckless and apathetic, including who lives and who dies. Because his only left purpose of life was seemingly to kill criminals his comrades called him "killer Tayden" on the quiet which turned into his nickname "Kiltayn" later. As one of the most succesful but also merciless hunters he killed criminals all over Sirius. He collected most bounties for corpses even when he could get payed higher for deliver them alive. It is actually known that he tortured arrested criminals or just jettisoned them in their escape pods into the atmospheres of planets and let them burn out alive. After several warnings by the guild concerning the public reputation of the group his bounty contract was terminated after one year. This events finally proven uncontrovertable that he was emotionally compromised by the death of his father. And since then he is a freelance mercenary.
Sir, after all please allow me to indicate you on something regarding this...person. Do we really want such a unscrupulous, unpredictable monster fight in our rows?",
"Come on lieutnant, stop whining already. This is just the kind of men we are looking for, to even have a chance of succes with this mission and keep the enemy busy long enough for the main offensive. And besides - he isn't going to fight in our rows. I did get order to hire a full squadron of mercenaries. Those who survive will be payed more than noble, those who die are not in the need of. A win-win situation, right? Contact the Marinenachrichtendienst that we need more dossiers.", and a broad grin slowly distinguishes on his face.
