seems legit.
This.
I understand that Chris Roberts needs money to make the game and pay all the people working on it so they can feed their kids, but seriously? Hundreds of dollars for a few space pixels on the internet?
Rather use three one hundred dollar bills to light a cigar, and then immediately throw away the cigar, and record it just to show the world that I was a freaking sir and a gentleman of epic quality.
I fear Star Citizen is getting way overhyped, and might end up being another Destiny. :|
EDIT: Oh, and the large capitals that require constant care and attention that can't be logged out? Yeah, that sounds REALLY stupid and annoying.
Sounds like it will be stupid easy to just steal one, or have people come blow it up at low activity times (much like PoB's here) when no one is on to defend it.
I'm sure SC will be cool to a degree, but man... I think some people be riding that hype-ship WAAAY too hard.
The dollar value on the ship packages has never reflected their in-game value. Don't think of it as "pay $350 for a ship", it's "offer $350 to fund the game and receive a ship as a token of appreciation".
The persistent capital ships are intended to require dozens if not hundreds of players to work cooperatively to utilise them. Consider also that you will need to hire NPC crew, which are also persistent, who will defend the ship even when the player(s) are logged off. They're also not going to be easy to destroy either way - Disco analogies are quite inappropriate.

Definitly, Echo 7-7 we have to get Discovery in this D: Omg think of all the potentials we've been building up until now. Freelancer was like, RP background (build-up) now we can actually set it on real practice as you can move, walk around outside your ship and actually have some more real RP interaction. Let's see once it's out, I realy think Disco would fit as a perfect mod for Star Citizen cause it has so many RP backgrounds which could be implemented into the game, as a mod (since Chris Roberts said that the game is going to be able to be modded, like Freelancer).

I understand this, and I'm fine with games offering pledges to help fund the game. But, if you're going to do this, the reward for the amount pledged needs to be something substantial...
Sorry to say, but donating $350 to the game, only to get some internet-space-pixels and a copy of the game is a rather small "token of appreciation", at least for that amount of money.
Anything over $100 should be something more than that.

There's one problem with that idea; none of the current staff are particularly familiar with CryEngine. In order to port Discovery into SC, we would be starting from scratch - a daunting task.

The 'extra' reward is the gamble that the money donated goes towards developing features that you will enjoy having available in the final game.
Not convinced? You don't have to be - it's not like you're locked out of exclusive content that you won't be able to acquire in-game. The price range is for those with disposable income, and it'd be boring if every player had every ship they wanted on day one.
[11:50:04] SnakeLancer™: I just figured
[11:50:20] SnakeLancer™: Chris Roberts made Star Citizen the exact way he wanted to have Freelancer
[11:50:22] SnakeLancer™: OMG
[11:50:33] SnakeLancer™: You were able to look around inside your cockpit in Freelancer

I feel like, he was all "fuq u microsoft, gonna make my own freelancer not bound by you"
You see features and physics inside the old Freelancer, look at how the ships move and their animations.
