Part One: Omicron Delta, some sector of empty space:
Darkness.complete darkness. Out in space, it was supposed to be a bit bright. but not in the omicrons. Here, darkness was best. For, the brighter it became, the more risk rose that one man wouldn't see the next day, a day being a matter of 24 hours anyway.
Through this darkness, a rumbling ship came through. The Poseidon . A Serenity class transport, the favorite of captains everywhere. Especially in the omicrons. Usually, transports were confined to fleeing, an option not so viable in Western Sirius. A fight or flee option was best, and the Serenity served this purpose. Here, every small thing mattered, and could mean life or death.
Though this ship couldn't light up the space outside, inside it, the world was different. Warm. Bright. A bit sober, but that's what happens if you dont hit flat ground in a year.
An order rang through the central comms ," Crew, this is the captain. get ready to dock. We are on long approach to Freeport Eleven . Standard drill. Get some shut eye, have the ship prepped. and, go have some fun. We look for a new job tomorrow."
Part Two: In the Bridge
The bridge of the ship was a bit empty. There was the captain, then the engineering head , the captain's right hand man, and the Captain's first officer. Of course, these terms were rarely ,if not never, used. To the captain, his crew was his family.
"Jake, what are the new plans for business?" The engineering head asked.
"I am not sure yet. I might check Sirius Business to see if we can get something into our pockets. Meanwhile, Dwayne, how's our engine structure going?"
"After that encounter with those jelly? I'd say you better have some credits spared for engine repairs."
"I agree with Dwayne, Jake. they are sure to have repair facilities, or at least, spare engines, on the Freeport. we just need the credits."
"Yes Jack, we do. but it is not as if we are poor sods . We have a few million credits on the Poseidon's own account, not counting our personal accounts. We are, as a matter of fact, richer than other ship crews. We have lucrative trade methods. Why worry about money?"
"Yeah, you are right , Jake. So, you buying the booze on the Freeport?"
"yep. its on me. but don't tell anyone, alright? Last thing i want is all these guys and gals asking for a booze allowance."
The three laughed, as the Hulking mass of a ship approached the freeport.
