Hi, after reading discussion in this sanction notice, I would like to get green statement (since admin gave statements in that thread but not in admin green) and/or suggest change of rules.

As it was pointed out, rules says about insults this:
Quote:1.1 Using coarse language, posting abusive, hateful, racist content in chat, public or private is prohibited under any circumstances. Threats and insults are only allowed on the server if used within roleplay.

When anybody (and especially new player) read this, he can easily understand it the way that insults within roleplay are allowed without any limitations.

Thus if these Jansen´s word are true

If you want to adjust your language accordingly you simply do not use swear words at all, if you get reported for swearing, you likely will get sanctioned as the other person apparently had a problem with it.

Its your responsibility to make sure that you do not get reported for violating rules, as much as it is mine to take care of reports should you not have been responsible in the first place.

then the wording of the rules should be changed. Either to something like "Threats, and insults without swearwords, are only allowed on the server if used within roleplay.", or if you want to avoid problem with drawing a line about what is and what isn´t considered swearword, then removing the word "insults" completely. Better safe than sanction, right?

Because honestly, how is anyone supposed to know that "insults are allowed within roleplay" in fact means "insults are allowed within roleplay but only without sweardwords and in a way which won´t make target feel offended, because if you will be reported, you will be sanctioned".

Notice: Since the discussion about "swearing yes or no" was already started elsewhere (see here or here for example), it would be nice to not derail this thread with repeating it here again, you can just continue in other threads. Thanks.

On a ragebreak. Or ragequit. Time will tell.

I guess it might be good to make that more clear then.

An inRP insult would be something along the lines of sniffer, cannibal, treehugger, whatever else that might be considered to be insulting by the character that is adressed, so just be creative there.
Calling someones character something relating to intercourse and female dogs is not necessarily falling under that and is definitely not creative.
You can do that, we wont go through the logs and slap anyone using a bad word, but if you get reported for it, you will likely have to deal with the consequences.

No doubt the rules will be looked at however the world in not black and white and some rules are written to avoid the extremes of a dictatorship and of anarchy.

A totalitarian approach has a whole band of people opposed to a nanny state approach and all that follows. A free for all would also have the entire server leave as there will be a rampant set of attacks claimed to be RP.

That is why collective decisions are taken in each situation, when someone posts a violation and there will always be winners and losers if people want to view it that way.

It should not be too hard to mitigate language if they think it may cause offence, the same way we do in real life.

It´s not hard (I personally avoid heavy swearing ingame because I don´t like it myself, when needed I just *swear vulgarly*), but players need to know they are expected to do that. And from current rule wording this is not clear. For someone using mentioned words for intercourse or female dogs is okay so they don´t see issue with using them, thus rules should say them it is not okay. That´s all.

I would like to quote myself:

(01-10-2016, 11:45 AM)FluffReborn Wrote: The problem arises with common motley, thugs and low-life gangsters, such as Mollys, Rogues, Maquis or Xenos. They aren't nice people with whom you'd like to have a tea party. They are pure-blood criminals, which are more likely to board the ship, abuse every woman (or man) on board, then flush them out into space - for fun. I don't think such people would even restrain themselves from cussing.

The server swear filter can be used for this as well, I imagine.
InRP insults that you deem okay can be left untouched while those the team deems a problem are simply added to the filter list (with the person doing the first offense with that word gets a warning or sanction, up to the admins). You can set new words in \EXE\flhook_plugins\playercntrl.cfg in the [SwearWords] section with the simple syntax Text = insert_swearword_here

Why not to replace FLHook's Punitive Warning with code which replace bad word with *peep* or something like that?

Something to consider.

Insults aren't just expletives. Expletives are explicitly banned, while insults aren't. This means you can insult a character without swearing and it's fine, but OORP insults aimed at other players are against the rules whether they involve swearing or not

Expletives aren't relevant to the inRP insults line. Swearing/coarse language and 'insults' are even mentioned in separate clauses/sentences to explicitly distinguish between the two. More clarity would be beneficial though.
