Archie Yates is a captain of Planetform transport vessel Haweswater, and a devoted member of the PFI corporation. Every new day when he wakes up he thinks about how could he serve his enterprise to enrich and develop it. When he thinks that he is a valuable member of the PFI, a corporation with centuries of glorious history, his powers and motivation double, and enthusiasm starts overfilling him.
Day by day he starts his routine with those thoughts, that is why whoever talks to him feels this enormous energy and fire in his heart. A true member of the great corporation.
Even despite he is far not the only one in the trading and transportation division, he believes that his work greatly helps enriching the PFI.
Archie's usual routine takes him for fairly hostile Tau-31 to pretty dangerous Omicrons.
He never really asked where does all the wildlife end up whenever he unloads his Percheron, but he believes that any fate worth the money he brings to PFI.
A good question would be: "Why are you so devoted to PFI, Archie? What is so special about it?" He'd probably answer: "It is natural to develop, and I want to be a part of progress."
And truly, a corporation that is as mighty as nature itself (up to some level), represents a new way of life organization, that can influence the nature like never before. Some narrow-minded humans, say, Gaians, could contradict this fact appealing to balance in the universe, but what do they really know about it? Old-fashioned way of thinking was always the drag to a progress, and low-level categories, like bionatural balance on a distinct patch of rock in space could be considered as one at present time. People are no more tied to planetary surfaces, and many generations have already proved it. Whenever balance shifts, humanity finds new means to pull it back and make its environment more comfortable.
Humanity is more powerful than it has used to think it is. And there is no need to justify the progress, so natural and integral with us.
By this time, as we go along thinking, Archie has already prepared himself and departed to the bridge. The ship is fitted for departure, cargo is placed inside and firmly tied to withstand the shakes of the dangerous route. Archie looks satisfied and calm, he knows the risks and responsibilities, but he is ensured in Percheron's reliability (needless to say that this ship served corporations for decades, while maintained, resembles a reliable working machine). Last preparations are performed and Archie orders to initiate the ignition. The ship takes off, rising huge dust clouds from the Harris surface and ascends into the orbit.
