Just the fact that we're "migrating" skype groups to discord, adding even a general server for ALL discovery members, is a good step to refull the server, now that it will be more easy to interact with other players without joining in a faction skype group obligatorily. If we could improve other (If even small) server/forum features we will "back to discovery freelancer good days". And also your ideas here are cool.
While the idea is an interesting one to think about, there are a few cons as well. Right now, space is too big for something like this. I agree with Swallow. You don't want to throw new players into a area which doesn't have many players. They'll get bored and may decide not to stay. There isn't a high enough server density to guarantee that no matter where new players choose to start out, that they'll be surrounded by other people to help integrate them in the community. This is one thing the Erie spawn location does pretty well. They're immediately surrounded by all of the other new players, and they're in the middle of a populated house.
This is good. I do encourage the community to help think of some ideas to raise the server population/density up to have a full server all of the time again, that would be fantastic. Though that certainly is a lot easier said than done. I'm going to be restarting the ModDB page again with a clean slate, since a lot of the reviews have been rumored to turn people away. (And the fact that some negative reviews were relevent a long time ago, but may not be the case anymore)
Anyways, back on subject.
Redistributing players might sound like a fun idea at first, though one of the important things that new players should need, is exposure to the community around them. A multiplayer game is only fun if you're able to play together with the people around you. I'm unsure if say.. spawning some people in a more quiet house is a good way to do this. (Unless things are shrunk and condensed, that is)
