It would, however, prevent us from putting it in, if the people who would be the first ones to obtain any unique items we put into those systems are the same few people with the technical knowledge of how the game works. It comes down to unfair advantage that cannot be physically stopped. Datamining is a problem in any game, but in Discovery Freelancer the only thing you need to know in order to do it is how to drag and drop a system INI file into Notepad.
Again, if we want to implement something unique for people to find and use - be it ships, gear, visual for ships and so on, it cannot show up systems. However other stuff - sure, go ahead.

I think one way is to have really really rare npc spawns associated with the system. Sure - datamining, but, it'd still be a bit more annoying to trace.
I guess the only way to make unexpected things happen is making use of flhook, which also has its limitations.
Also depends on the items said NPCs would drop. NPCs are not a constant and players during low-times would be benefiting the most from this.

That would add a bit of challenge. You only can take a few guys with you, then have to wait in a inhospitable system until the very rare NPC spawns, and then you have to take it out. Alternatively, just have that only happen as an event.
Sombra, look, do not take this the wrong way, but please do some research on the current capabilities of the game and mod mechanics before making such suggestions. It is very problematic when we start to philosophize about what ifs and cool mechanics and people start rooting for them and hype them, while the people involved in their actual implementation have to exchange a look like this and go "Yeah...sure, maybe. Soon."

From what I saw, that's within the realm of possibility, Spazzy. Want a system only to be visited by small ships? Make a cavern with a jump hole in it. Want a system only to be visited by capitals? Make a system with intense radiation. Want ultra-rare ultra-buffed NPCs that spawn only in certain areas with are rare chance? That's doable, even with a server that stops producing NPCs when more than 50 players are online. Have them drop rare stuff? Doable.
Have people not finding exploits: Never possible.
To be fair, I'd rather not have them drop ultra-rare stuff, but rather stuff that has the value similar to battleship remains. Those things are actually pretty well regulated with the things as they are right now. Everything else, really, should only be event-stuff, and even in events it's hard to regulate who get's the stuff. As someone who planned and did events in other games, administrative, I pretty much know what you mean, Spazzy, especially the frustration when you see people always finding loopholes or just be greedy, like people piling on a station to get rare stuff or people using cruise-snubs to distract NPCs.
