Welp. Full disclosure I am an exarch and I captain a shrine for the Oracles.
But before that... I was a volunteer for the Zoner Defence Force. I know its since defunct.. infact it was defunct for a long time but after reading This open comm from the core.
*he shakes his head.*
Listen.
Not that long ago I was mostly in one peace.
Gunship was blown to bits by nomads and while it was a huge loss I was the worst off. Crew made it hell my leather coat made it but I got picked up by slavers for a long time.
Got out thanks to family. Zoner family. Zoners used to look out for each other you know? Out in the fringes its not pleasant.
Wondrous, awe inspiring, yes. But ultimately the worst place to set down roots. So.. Zoners didn't commit that much time and resources unless it was completely necessary.
I spent time in bounty hunter custody... even in order dungeons. And trust me you dont want to be thrown down there they dont feed people regularly.
Zoners might have fought nomads, corsairs, order, core, all kinds of people but there is no real difference between them.
Hell the nomads are easy to understand and avoid if you bother to learn. The real threat.. the real problem are those people that want to draw lines in a void. Take territory people and places for credits. Cause people treat people like trash. They know what an escape pod is for and they'll blat the thing cause they had a bad day. Happened to me.
So I read this crap and im wondering were are our leaders? Were they all killed off? Who has a lick of sense anymore?
I became an oracle because we look out for every single one of the seekers and their families even if they dont believe. Were a sanctuary refugees from society that only have one another. It is a vary Zoner way of life.. at least I thought so.
No im not advertising. We dont need to advertise, we get enough strays and poor and end of rope stories every day, in fact were full, were over full.
But I cant help but see the Zoner nation is shrinking. Its not about numbers, or territory or fleets. Its voices im not hearing.
Its awfully silent... when did the zoners stop giving a crap about each other? Stop thinking?
Freeport 11 has been destroyed mostly like 9 times since its been built. Maybe its time to move the thing? It was enough to move when it was blown up once! Ships and stuff can be replaces the people never EVER come back.
What the hell is wrong with you? There has to be plenty of space out there? Is the iridium that important? ... and if it is then who is going to defend it?
The Core wants an empire the Order? Well good luck figuring out Golanski. At least Taweret had integrity and a purpose.
That manic will never be happy so its probably best to get the hell away from him. Core and Order will fight for an eternity the only problem is your always in the damn middle.
Im going to stop screaming about people I dont like.. I want to see some ideas as to what can be done. Does anyone else feel this way out there? I cant be the only one. The moment we call it someone elses problem.. that is the point of no return.
The point you abandon your family, friends, anyone who COULD be.. is when you abandon yourself.
Please start caring about each other. The zoner way cant be completely gone. It was the only true humanity the sector had.

The Zoner way hasn't completely gone away and there are some of us who not just care about other Zoners but others as well. If you want proof of that, come to [MFE]Med Force One and see for yourself.
He looks at the sender's picture
If you desire, I could help you with some of those injuries if I can't fix them all here. Just remember, that caring attitude I still carry has cost me deeply as I now live alone. I'm just one Zoner who just wants you to know.
Dr. John Henry Holliday

You treated my brother Jims back injuries Jim Mckenna.. I think he had like what 5 hernias? Cause he was a stubborn old bat and wouldn't see a doctor...
That might be why I went on that rant... Stubbornness drives me up the wall. But if your the only one to even respond to this...
There might be problems... with the zoner community.
Thanks for the invitation doc but im more or less stuck the way Im at. It looks ugly but alive. On that same vein we would be happy to help you in any humanitarian needs. Just send a comm.
I guess good people will just have to rely on being good then being zoners from here on out.

Good day, Exarch. I definitely was not around for as long as you are, but I can feel what you are talking about. I only saw Freeport 11 razed two times, and I tried as much as I could to keep it what it was. An outpost of humanity in the vast hostile void. A place where you are welcome because you need a metal husk to keep an air to breath, despite the banner you are wearing.
I must admit that this place isn't there anymore. And maybe it never was.
Too many places where Zoners used to dwell have turned into war zones, or were taken over by oppressive powers, or just were abandoned because the spirit is gone. Maybe it is time for us to move on? Take the ones we care about and find a new frontier. A place where we will not be separated by false politics. Bring a candle of humanity with us. And from there we could go teach other people what we learnt, what we tend to forget when dragged into silly political struggle between the Houses. Zoners need to expand the horizons for all mankind. Because that's what we do.

Exarch,
I apologize for my delay, as I've been very busy dealing with things station-side and in the region.
Although I'm not aware of what an Oracle is, I can assure you that Freeport 11's heart still beats strong. I've been here since I arrived in the Omicrons for the first time A year ago, and have been aiding the station numerous times. As a denizen of old Terra Mater (Yes, I am that old, being left in the proverbial freezer for that long does that to you, my friend), I didn't have much to go on for family. Especially after a series of events led me to be wanted by the Kusari Government.
As I was leaving Liberty during the Harmony Incident, I met a friendly Zoner in.. I believe it was Frankfurt. Marisa Kita. She had been coordinating relief efforts on Freeport 11 after it was razed by the Core back in.. 823? The Sirian calendar every now and again gets me, I'm still trying to get away from AD. She had taken me on a grand journey, not only showing me the beauty that is Gran Canaria, The place that I would come to call home, Freeport 11, and even to the far reaches of Nomad space, showing me the jawdropping "Dur-Shurrikkun". At that point, I had fallen in love with Marisa, and over time as I stayed on the station with her, the people there, the Zoners especially, became my family, when all I had were my two AI. This station is my home, and what makes it home are the people that live here, what few still do, sadly.
I took the position of Administrator following Kyu Akibara's exile because this place is my home, just as much as it was his, and I wanted to both make the Freeport a great place, and use my position to try and make peace. Some may call me foolish, and I won't blame you for assuming me arrogant, but I have had it with seeing innocent blood shed. I've been in contact with powerful connections in both the Order and Core, and I assure you that I'll do what I can to end this, as both sides have those who are sick of the constant warring, when a more dangerous threat lurks.
The Zoner way on Freeport 11 hasn't died. If anything, Recent events has made it stronger than ever here, as everyone has come together to help the wounded and bring in supplies. My ID on my ship may not say Zoner, but the fact that Marisa had called me a born Zoner, the fact that I've nearly lost my life for the people of this station, and the fact I've helped however I can to fix the problem we face - I might as well call myself and be one.
I hope that this has shed some light on the situation here, Exarch.
Clear skies to you,

He chuckles
Oh yes, I'm very much still around and gainfully employed with medicine and science so I'm not going anywhere anytime soon.......I hope.
So how is your brother doing? I remember him well and yes, he is a stubborn old bird. I think I cured him of some of that, too.
*sighs*
Yes, there are a lot of problems with the Zoner community but I found life better when I stopped playing peacemaker between every warring faction in Sirius. And Sir, you would be surprised what I could do for you.
Nonetheless, if I send a comm to you for something, to whom am I sending it?
First of all ive been incredibly rude. My name is Leonard Mckenna. An exarch is like.. uhh a manager or in my case captain.
I am so happy more people have chimed in on this.
Tara,
Thank you for your response. Im not that much older really before Toledo.. though... well.. peaceful times.... But it seems the sector since Toledo has been a vary different place, I was marooned shortly before it. Back at that point all you had to do was find an unknown jump hole push your scanners to full and pick a direction to push our horizons.. now it might not be that simple I admit.
Be we do need to strive for it. We need to care.. the sigma nonsense.. or house crap.. bad distractions.. junker fodder.. a dying way of life.
Thank you.
Nodoka Hanamura!
Ive got to sit down with you.
Im a major history maven. Pre colony is my favorite period. If you wouldn't mind. Otherwise. I understand.
Whats precious to us must be protected. I dont think it needs to be abandoned I just. ... I just wish we had better.. I guess more mobile bases? I remember when the order and the core rushed to freeport 11 to PROTECT it. It wasnt really that long ago. I mean... If we cant be smart, cant talk about and solve problems... those used to be our best options.
I dont think we really foresaw the expansion... The lives the Order and The Core have paid to be were they are now is high.. exorbitantly high. So much they cannot tell the difference between blood and water.
A similar Plague is happening in the Taus.. if it continues all of Sirius will run in this direction.. I dont think the problems of today are even a hint of what will soon be the problem.
The Freeport is just an island.
Blood should never be a price.. these people believe it is.
Thank you.
Doc, Ill try and make it down there so you can at least see what you can do. Oracle medicine is mostly slanted heavily to the addicted because mostly who we end up being a sanctuary for are slaves and the abused.. abandoned. And that doesn't count the un addicted, the strange cases the infected cases we rehabilitate.
Some scars stay scars. I got used to them. Also as a cyberneticist I admit I am abit lazy, though.. it would be a good idea to actually see "The" doctor.
That was another thing.. zoners used to have so many disciplines.. I learned cybernetics from other zoners and worked and studied physiology on patrols. Maybe we should get a Zoner University going? .. just an idea.
Jim was our high exarch, he was in charge for a few years. Hes gone... beyond.. teaching the next generation of oracles i guess you can say. Hes still a stubborn piece of crap.
-LM
ps. Is the university thing a dumb idea? Any other ideas?

Cybernetics, eh? I have a whole department dedicated to that. I'd like to get your insight on things and get your expertise. We have many disciplines here in Med Force Enterprises hence why I keep a lot of staff. I'd very much like to get together with you sometime.
It's nice to hear that Jim is still stubborn. Some things never change and no, the university thing isn't a dumb idea.

Exarch,
I would be more than happy to a meeting with you sometime. Feel free to contact me when you so wish, and I'll be more than happy to talk with you. I assure you that I have many stories to tell of my time on earth, as well as my accounts of what I encountered before the Alliance fled to Sirius.
I know this message is short, but I have somewhere to be - Take care, Exarch Balor.
