Zack Young was born 808 AS on Planet Erie. His father, Sebastian Young, ran a planet side mechanics shop both for ground and space vehicles. Zack would usually help his father in the shop by cleaning the space ships and making some of the easier repairs. Since he had zero interest in any of the ground vehicles, he refused to learn anything about their inner workings and maintenance, but was twice as eager when it came to spaceships.

For his 18th birthday, his father gave him an old civilian shuttle, it's engines however were too weak to leave the atmosphere due to the power-plant being damaged. His father also would pay for the fuel as long as he'd bring his 8 year old sister, Olivia, to her school. Zack would spend most of his days to either search around local scrap yards for parts or do other work on his ship, hoping to be able to leave the planet as soon as possible.

A Saturday as ordinary as it could be, after cleaning the interior of his shuttle from chip bags and crumbles from last night where Zack watched old Earth documentaries on his ship's hud he was sent out by his father to another mechanics shop to get some missing spare parts. He had to walk the way since his shuttle didn't have the engine power to lift the parts and therefor had to fly a freighter which has been borrowed from the other mechanics shop.
After leaving walking half the way, a loud bang could be heard and an explosion lit up the morning sky. He immediately turned around and made a run to his home just to be greeted ashes, debris and a huge fire. He tried his best to make a way through the remains of the shop in search of his family members, but his efforts were in vain as he collapsed a few feet into the building from a severe smoke poisoning.

He was greeted by two LPI officers the same evening when he woke up in his hospital bed. Both his parents were dead and his little sister, Olivia, was missing. He dismissed himself from the hospital the same evening. He went back to the remains of his father's shop only to find a CTE 1440AV Starblazer which was the only ship with active shields and therefore survived the explosion. There were no recordings of the ships in the files of the shop and Zack never saw his dad working on it so he decided to keep it until the original owner would somehow reach out to him and demand it back. The ship's designation was "Night Desert".

Four days later he finally worked up the courage to leave the planet after receiving news of his sister still being alive. Earlier that morning, a friend of his sent him a recording of a Camera from a neighboring shop which showed his sister being dragged away by two men wearing all black into a vessel which closely resembled a Liberty Rogue ship which he once saw in the news. With that being his only lead, he decided to leave planet Erie once and for all. He used most of the credits, remaining from his fathers shop, to equip the Starblazer with newer weapons and shields which he bought from the equipment dealer on planet Manhattan.
