Please allow me to introduce myself. I am Bassam Hussaini, part of the Commune's governing body, or the Triumvirate, if you will. As you might be aware, the bold and impassioned speech that you transmitted over the public channels has caught our eye. The message and the emotion behind it resonated with us, in a very profound way. It must have taken a great deal of courage to speak out, and for that we salute you. We too have seen the indignities that men and women all over Malta are submitted to by their governing dons. The rampant social and economic decay, oppression and loss of common civil liberties like religious freedom, or even freedom of expression. All that just to feed the greedy appetites of the profligates in power.
I am ashamed to say, that for all our time here, we stood by the wayside, not interfering. Part of the blame falls on our shoulders, as well. For we believed, like you did once, in the wisdom of the governing families and elders, trusting and hoping that the system that perpetuated itself for so long could not be wrong. But no more. Their lies have become too great to ignore, their many crimes have caught up to them and justice demands to be rendered in balance. We wish to atone for our complicity through inaction. We wish to see the liberties all true Maltese love and cherish be restored to them. We wish that the paradise Malta was always supposed to be, finally come into existence. We wish to help. But we cannot do it alone.
With you, and others like you, we would come immeasurably closer to that goal. Will you help us, mister Lowack? Will you help your people?
