Couldn`t find a tutorial for this method, but if this is a double post: sorry.
Well, seeing as some players have trouble setting up weapon groups I decided to post the method which I use. Credits go to a S/D mate for making it so very simple that even I understand. And we`re talking about the man who thinks the door of a refrigirator opens inward here.
This is a very simple method of setting up 2 weapon groups. More advanced stuff will not be covered here.
first of all: go to options -> controls -> user interface
scroll down untill you see "activate weapon group 1" etc.
Assign keys to "activate weapon group 1" and to "activate weapons group 2".
I just use "1" for group 1 and "2" for group 2 as you can see. you can use any keys you like though.
Now, return to the game after confirming the changes to your controls.
head into space (if not there already) and do the following:
1 press 1 (or the key you assigned to "activate weapon group 1")
2 select your weapons for that group (meaning you deselect all the weapons EXCEPT the ones you want to be in group 1)
3 now, press 2 (or the key you assigned to "activate weapon group 2")
4 select your weapons for that group (meaning you deselect all the weapons EXCEPT the ones you want to be in group 2)
5 press 1 again (or the key you assigned to "activate weapon group 1")
The weapons you put in group 1 will now turn green/activate
now make a hotkey for firing weapon group 1:
go to options -> controls ->ship controls
scroll down and you will see "fire weapon group 1"
assign a hotkey to it (mouse 3 works well, it`s the scroll wheel of your mouse when you push it, not the scrolling...)
now you can fire the the weapons in group 1 with the touch of 1 button.
So, what you just did is making 2 seperate weapon groups. this method is ideal for bombers, capital ships etc.
example: put your SNAC in group 1. the normal weapons (codies, buckshots, colada`s etc) in group 2. you keep weapons group 2 active all the time. that way you can use regular weapons at will. but if you see the white of the eyes of that gunboat captain, hit mouse 3. although weapon group 1 is inactive it will fire the SNAC when you press the hotkey.
example 2: have some mortars on your capital ship? those suckers drink a lot. put em in group 1, the rest of your turrets in group 2 (bar missiles ofcourse, they fire with "q", duh). when you have a nice killing shot, hit mouse 3 (or whatever fires weapon group 1) to fire of those big guns in one fell swoop. works very nice. until the rest of the pack eats you alive because all your weapon power is drained but hey, it looked good didn`t it?
final notice: before you dock ALWAYS activate weapon group 1. otherwise the groups will reset. if that happens, just follow steps 1-5 again. dock with group 1 active and your groups will remain sorted. that`s it.
