The Black Kites are a defense squadron mainly financed and hosted by The Consensus, made up of pilots from Pygar Colonists, local Zoners and Consensus members.Created to be a shield for Pygar it also fulfills the role of Escorts for Consensus and Zoner ships whilst acting as a response unit for the bases, whether this is to deter attackers and protect Freeports or to enforce No Fire Zones.
It is intended that eventually the Kites will become a response for Freeports to use should they find their Neutrality to be taken advantage of or ignored, and to show that their will be repercussions should the generous nature of Neutral Stations be abused.
As it's Commanded by Jerard Voncloud Livadia Shipyard has become the Black Kites main stationary base, the Command Centre itself is found aboard the Flagship Aquilion Carrier “Kaldra”. Although having access to Fearless Class Destroyers the Kites are more focused on being a Fighter based squadron, allowing them to respond quickly and have access to areas of Sirius where capitols may not be allowed, either Physically or Diplomatically.
Formation
After witnessing the numerous assaults upon Freeport 11, the Pirate take over of Freeport 2 the various attacks upon Gran Canaria and it's Annexation Jerard Voncloud realised that the Zoners for the most part were not protecting themselves efficiently if at all. Freeport 11 having to in the past Rely upon independent’s, Mercenaries and when they felt like it, IRG. His Security forces when part of the Omicron Supply Industries unable to prevent the various sieges Canaria endured over the years. And the ease in which Pirates managed to take over Freeport 2 leading to another home Zoners having to flee.
When the Annexation of Gran Canaria began Voncloud took to Resisting the Armed Forces,, engaging the Stirling and it's battlegroup. This did not go down well with the Directors of OSI who demanded he give up his position and leave in order to not bring the company into conflict.
Upon leaving some of the OSI security personnel loyal to Voncloud joined him board the Kaldra. It was decided they would lead the Exodus from Gran Canaria to Pygar and oversee its colonisation. It was at Pygar that Voncloud chose to join the Consensus who already had presence near the planet and ties to the locals. Upon joining he saw a gap in the Cooperative, there was no dedicated Security group, There were Medical ships, science teams, a university but no real combat squadron. Taking what he knew and his experience along with the few pilots who had joined him Voncloud went about creating a dedicated Wing of Zoner fighters with the purpose of defending them and their way of life.
As Administrator of Livadia Shipyard Voncloud has made it and it's crew part of the Black Kites, even recommissioning “The Fearless” The namesake of the Zoner Destroyer Line.
