I am fairly new to Freelancer & Discovery. I was an old Elite player on the Amiga many years ago, these types of games appeal to me for some reason.
I am having a few problems with Discovery. Earlier it updated and I lost all my saved games :o( I will no longer use the launcher and cannot understand why anyone would think that it is acceptable to delete all the saved games.
I am now having problems with the resolutions which are all 4:3 on a 16:9 monitor. 1280x960 is max ie 4:3. The bottom of the screen is missing when on the menu/game options. Is this because I am running the game from the Freelancer.exe rather than the game launcher? Is it this why the screen resolution is limited?
The graphics look different to me since the update, they do look better unless I am imagining things?
First of all, you should use Discovery launcher if you want to have no problems with the resolution. There's an option in Discovery launcher called "Use Desktop Resolution". Have you used it?

Yes. Before the update all was working. I have just started it again and it did run full screen.

It's not supposed to keep saved games.
Do other people find this acceptable? I certainly do not. All the time that has been wasted because it auto updates and deletes my games. I have now blocked it from accessing the server so hopefully it will not delete my games if it cannot update. I really dislike having my time wasted. I could not find a way to disable updates in the options and I will not have it delete my games. I am sorry but this really makes me angry.

You can make two different freelancer installations. One for slingplayer and the other for discovery.

Other people play on server. I think you are first he who is actually upset because he can't play singleplayer.
I did try the multiplayer game but it keeps disconnecting and stops the game. I am not sure why that was, the ping time for the test server? seemed fairly high@101. It was higher than some of the other servers. There are only 2 servers running the current version 93? One of which has a password so I cannot get on to it. That one does have a much lower ping time but not much use if I cannot use it. My internet does not work well when it gets warm/hot. I do not know whether that is contributing to the problems or not or whether it is just the ping time.

Thanks for the tip. Is there no way to preserve games so that they are not lost? I cannot understand why it would ever be acceptable. Multiplayer online even then I cannot understand how losing where you get to would be wanted. Are the status, credits and ship equipment saved on the server as part of the chosen name?
I think that I can answer the last sentence after seeing the details on the server and my username where it does look like it shows the credits/ship.
Are the servers in the game the only ones available? There are only 2, one of which is password protected, which are running the current v93. That only leaves me with the test server which is not working well. I keep disconnecting which is making it unplayable. Can any other servers be added to give me more choice and if so where do I find them and add them?
DSLauncher deletes saved games when opened because they are an age-old problem that cause crashes for modded installations. They are only wiped if in the default folder and can be preserved if you move them to another location.

I think that I did read something about that from a fairly old posting. I guess that if there is a problem with the saved games with the current update then at least it will not stop the game from running. It does mean a lot of messing around though and remembering to do it. I did see a topic about someone zipping the saved games to prevent them from being deleted. I don't know whether that works or not.
I have a question about the servers which are available in the game and whether there are any additional servers which can be added. There are only 2 for the current mod v(4?)93 and the only one that I can get on is terrible because I keep losing the connection, it also has quite a high ping. Where on this forum would I post a topic about that? I have searched and searched but not really come up with anything that helps. A list of servers which are usable with the current mod would be very helpful. Are there no additional servers which work with the current mod because I would of thought that they would be already available?
