Quote:3.3 - OOC (Out of Character) chat and behavior in Local/System Chat
Consequences:
While this was going on, you were being very out-of-character in local chat. Don't do that. Be roleplay. You, as a freelancer, are more than welcome to rely on protection from the law by Outcasts, though. You've lost some credits and will be returned to Harrisburg after you can write here saying that you've read the rules and will abide by them.
If you require evidence, you may request such via PM from a Staff member. Only the accused or an official faction leader of the accused person's faction may request such. Once you have the evidence, and if you wish to dispute it, you may post in the Sanction Thread below. Do not continue PM'ing a staff member, as that will result in your Appeal being denied. If you PM a staff or post in the sanction thread and you are not directly involved, you are consenting to be subjected to the reprisal of my choice which may involve in game repercussions up to a ban. Blaming members of your immediate family, neighbors, friends, pets, and assorted Orcs, Trolls and any other legendary creatures may result in the use of GM Right #CTE 750AE
It took me a while to register with the forums; sorry for the delay.
Yes, I have read the rules and try to role-play with imagination and a sense of humor and I will continue to do so. That being said, I take issue with being reported for a response to a "role-play" situation which I have encountered too many times already to ignore: more specifically using 2-dimensional, dead-end role-play formatting to achieve a desired PvP outcome.
The specific incident for which I was sanctioned involved my character being specifically targeted by players representing the LPI. The encounter took place at the trade-lane gap just off planet Houston iirc. My character who is a Freelancer ID with excellent reputation with all the Liberty security factions was part of a group of players running a trade route from the copper field of Kansas to Sigma15. The whole group of us were stopped and I was prevented from continuing by the LPI players who eventually demanded a fine for my character's use of pirate transport turrets on my pirate train. I offered to dock at the nearest dock to remove what was considered illegal under Liberty security role-play but my docking priviledges were continuously rescinded forcing me to argue with the LPI players that I was not being allowed to rectify what was at the time an honest mistake.
After fruitless chat it began to dawn on me that there was possibly an attempt to claim the 4k cargo of copper ore I was hauling and that although I play my fl character as almost strictly lawful the LPI players were in fact conducting a "shake-down".
Meanwhile, players in my group who were witnessing this and were trying to intercede on my behalf, were told to leave, I felt like an isolated victim already. Others in our quite large group mostly comprised of traders and lawful characters had been chatting about the the unfolding situation and, unknown to me a few of them decided to initiate hostilities against the LPI players using the only characters capable of this which they had. I only realized they were coming to start a PvP fight when they were already in system.
My fault was to not insist that they stay out of the argument altogether and I feel bad that they too seem to have been sanctioned for trying to get me out of a role-play dead-end which I did not consciously start or intend to start. To end this re-cap of the situation for which I was sanctioned, I hope you can understand that i was frustrated and resigned that I was being forced into a PvP scenario in my trade ship by players of the LPI faction with whom my character's reputation is allied. So I fired the first shots on a LPI player in a transport who seemed to be there solely to tractor-in my cargo upon my demise, and I was promptly destroyed by the other LPI characters in combat vessels.
It may be that the server population has a majority view that role-play is a framing for PvP and that role-play with no PvP end result is uninspiring and pointless. I myself disagree with that point of view. Unfortunately the number of times in which I have encountered exciting, inspiring and memorable role-play in scenarios full of a potential for PvP, number less than the fingers of one hand. I will continue to try to role-play with a sense of humor and with responsibility to the rules of the server but I suspect that if I become too disillusioned, I will spend game-time elsewhere, despite the online friends I have discovered through the game.
There are Server Rules and then there are House Roleplay Laws.
It is best not to confuse one from the other.
Local/System Chat is for Roleplay conversations.
If you want to talk' ooRP' you should take it to personal messages. Maybe the other person will be a little more understanding, especially to newer/inexperienced Roleplayers.
Ship released.
