Guard tag is so you can fly around and be hostile to everyone that hasn't taken 2 missions/1 bribe for your faction! Buahahahaha! And make that annoying battle music play at them, even when they are not fighting!

I am far more impressed to meet an LN Guard, even if indie. than these mere LN indies...
I'm not impressed by guard tags one bit. They just irritate me, and I'd be considerably happier if there was some way to accomplish the same things without the guard factions even existing.
It's always "fun" to pick up a half dozen "hostile" people when my BHG Manta pops out of a jump gate only to find that they're just a bunch of Navy pilots once I get my bearings.
Since there is this Reputation-tool, the guard-IDs seems to jump in masses out of nowwhere...
...and i find it gruel if i am honored more when using this guard-thing...
..cool, i just have to buy it and the package with better RP comes with it for free...
Indeed, i have encountered some guard-users he last days... i may be wrong, but some of these people seem to think "He, you little Indie, i am a guard and this means, i am superior to you."
Needless to say the RP-behavior nearly was not existent.
But this is my personal thought.
Edit:
In my opinion, if the only reason for using the guard-id is that one is now able to buy and fly cap-ships
(i had a talk to our fraction-leader, he told me this is not true),
better make a backround-story about the ship, name the crew(at least, the officers), where it came from, what is its main-duty...in the end, this is the thing which gives a big ship a face, and not a small info-card in your hold... .

Yeah, mistaking friendlies for hostiles is really annoying...what else is really annoying is that you cannot form on a hostile vessel...so there goes mixed faction flying, if they are guard repped...
Also, most people insist that guards should be hostile to you unless you are a member of the relevant faction, which merely serves to compound the above situation of allies being unable to form on each other...
