What is that? It looks like something that belongs to a weapon slot but is not a weapon. What can mount it and what does it do?

It goes on the Gallic Liner and the Corvo, it's used to 'destroy' anomalies to farm Scientific Data in certain fields. No other weapon can damage it as well as the scanner. Ammo is only obtained on research stations.
