Orleanais was quiet: the system was an offshoot of the main trade artery leading from Zurich to the Ile-de-France, and very few foreigners visited. The main traffic here was Gallic merchant ships bringing goods to Planet Orleans and picking up provisions for distribution throughout the state. This was perhaps one of the main reasons why the Maintenon Shipyard was chosen by the Defense Authority Command to carry out their project to refit five battleships that had once been in the Marine Nationale.
The four Marshals, despite the Bretonian siege at Brittany, came here to discuss the project - some aboard their flagships, some on private yachts or cruisers from their fleets.
On board the station they gathered in one of the briefing rooms converted into a meeting place for the Marshals and leading engineers of Gallia's warships, who together had to find ways of increasing the firepower of these ships, without having to pour several annual budgets into the refit of each of them.
Ever the daring patriot, and having been on the move a lot with recent battles with Brigands, Maquisards, and illegitimate royalist supporters, the Marechal de Lotharingie elected to report in to Maintenon in a manner more compact and less conspicuous than his peers. His personally owned, private Sunbeam graced one of Maintenon's fighter bays with a reflective frame only the unique aesthetic sense of Gallia could hope to produce, and one whose glamor clashed with the rougher appearance of its military-grade armaments and defense systems.
Nonetheless, this over-glorified space rocket had fulfilled its duty (for one day, at least), and the Marechal discreetly made his way to the meeting room, no doubt dodigng most of the fanfare associated with his position.
On board the Liner Aurore, which was once a prestigious vessel for tourism converted into a vessel for high-ranking military officers, the Maréchal Pierre Vaillant was relaxing. His recent promotion as Marshal and the merging of the Marine Nationale with the rest of the main Gallic fleets had given him a lot of work.
A few days earlier, he received an encrypted message alluding to a summit with the other Marshals at Maintenon, in the Orléanais system. The objective was to ensure a refit of older ships and to strengthen their firepower. Pierre was directly concerned because some of these vessels belonged to the old Marine itself.
The liner docked on Maintenon and a welcoming ceremony took place. Vaillant took the time to enjoy the ceremony for his own glory, then hurried to the meeting room. There, he would find the three other marshals.
