» Subject - Public Service Message on Lane Safety
Good day hard working personnel in all areas of Sirius' active trading industry!
In the interests of promoting safe travel and trade through the Sirius Sector, All Worlds Enterprises & Securities issues the following Public Service Message:
Lane Safety - It's everyone's responsibility:
Every day many ships take to the trade lanes we've become so accustomed to and provide the necessities for our way of life all throughout the different houses. Most often, these travels are routine, uneventful, even boring for those in a regular run at times. But even the most mundane trips can quickly turn hazardous and life threatening, unless certain precautions and awareness is maintained, as an order of Safe Lane Use.
Keeping Safe is a PROCESS:
Situational Awareness
Avoid Complacency
Remember FOCUS:
Filter Out Changes Undermining Safety
Star System Conditions and Hazards
Slow down in low visibility nebulas, Asteroid fields, and dark matter storm - always follow posted beacons for safety.
Keep your running lights clear for visibility
Steer wide and clear of any debris
Avoiding discharging weapons into debris to prevent explosive or shattered debris from flying back towards your vessel.
Are you entering a dangerous region, ripe with conflict? Consider an armor upgrade! Your crew are worth the expense!
Some pirates are aggressive and shoot without thought of your safety, while others talk your ear off with tales of superiority and false claims of combating corruption. You can't always trust encounters will be with the latter variety!
A bit of prevention is worth its weight in the potential cargo and ship losses!
Fuel management
Overuse of Thrusting will increase your costs per trip for the extra fuel use, and the added acceleration will increase your risk of collision.
A little less heavy feet out there, save a lot of accidents! And this doesn't mean just making the interior gravity less!
Lane operations
Seems simple - enter on green for Ageira lanes, and on the right for EFL lanes. But are you ensuring proper avoidance of the exit area on both types?
While rare, ships entering mid-lane, usually due to lane disruption (a tool often of common thugs with dated knowledge and inflated egos), often exit at speeds and at a distance far greater than the typical controlled exits.
Be aware of your position!
Leave a few seconds of stopping distance between ships
If impact from lane exit seems likely, exit a trade lane early, and safely veer right.
Did someone tailgate you into a trade lane? If you aren't certain that they won't exit the lane early to avoid an impact, it is prudent to do so yourself, for your own safety, and let the other ship pass.
Around large movers like Barges - keep clear!
Recognize that your ship is more maneuverable than theirs, and pursue the strategy of active avoidance!
Communicate with such vessels to safely come to an agreement on order of traffic- they'll often let you pass safely without concern!
Impairments - alcohol, drugs, and medication
Allow time to sober up before departure if drinking. Many houses have laws against Impairments like alcohol or drugs.
Be smart! Just don't do it!
Fatigue and Stress
Take a break if tired or seek professional guidance if your situation is negatively affecting your safe operating of your vessel.
Recollect and breathe, control your own actions, as the actions of other stressful ships out there are out of your control.
For those corporate ships out there, remember: you are the face of the company wherever you are in Sirius!
Present a great image at all times, because it will be remembered by those whose paths you encounter, especially if contact is of the negative variety!
Most corporations would rather hear about the great contact, rather than punish poor corporate displays of behavior!
If you have any questions regarding safe conduct, please ask your local Certified AWES Cargo Surveyor - they are there to help!
*This message was provided as part of All Worlds Enterprises & Securities safety awareness campaign.
Interspace Commerce would rather see our clients be safe out there, getting their cargo delivered, than claiming losses in our stations!
Uniting the Worlds through Finance - and concerned about the people of Sirius doing it! Stay Safe out there!*
