The Gaians are a radical group, founded as a grassroots organisation opposing environmental changes caused by terraforming or uncontrolled industrialisation. The first Gaians were not criminals, pirates or terrorists, but ordinary civilian scientists on the planet Cambridge at the Cambridge Research Institute. When the first rural grasslands developed, consuming the Institute's research areas, some biologists, who saw the far-reaching pollution and wasteful living of Bretonians, decided to protect the last untouched areas of Sirius space with force and weapons. As ecological issues are fundamental to modern Bretonia, Gaian's ideas gained considerable public support among Cambridge intellectuals as well as the working classes. Despite rumours of collaboration between Gaian terrorist cells and Kusari naval forces during the conflict with the Tau, support for their aims persists. Drastic changes to the political map of Bretonia and the surrounding area, along with the advances of the Gallic Royal Navy, have altered Gaian allies. They are allying themselves with lawless groups that resent the corporations involved in terraforming or dominating agriculture on Sirius.
The Gaian movement develops like nature, it has tides, it grows and dies to be reborn again. It has never been immensely strong, but it always exists in the consciousness of the Breton people, thanks to the existence of the Green Party in the Kingdom's parliament.
The Green Front is well known for being the legitimate front of the Gaian eco-terrorist movement, the party however carefully avoids any direct ties to the Gaians in order to avoid arrest and maintain their voice in Parliament. Their primary voting base is on Cambridge, and is comprised largely of students and faculty at the planet's historic university. The Green Front advocates for heavy regulations on industry, primarily environmental, and particularly opposes BMM and Planetform.
Today, the Gaian movement is flourishing again.
Now time for the leader, someone who will show the Gaians a way in space that will help them succeed:
Lilianne Daphne Rose - the woman who had the cunning and charisma to convince the various Gaian cells to put aside their divisive differences as they fight their way through space, focusing on the movement's original goal - the good of Nature. It was she who persuaded them to unify on military matters, establishing a unified command and a simple but nonetheless rank system. It is thanks to her efforts that the Gaians have another chance to make their mark among the stars and fight for the good of all Nature. In return, she was hailed as Archcaptain, a sort of primus inter pares among the captains of the Gaian fleets.
