Both are braindead easy and cheap to maintain. If keeping a pob up is in any way a burden for you you might just be bad at pob management or not have the time or energy to do it. Hell you can make it pay for itself in most places with just a hydroponics module
Pay for itself with nothing but hydroponics? Pass the bong, please.
Re-ran the math for both of 'em once 5.1 dropped, the profit margin dropped significantly so they went from ~100k profit a day to roughly break even
Only if someone else uses the base, too, like miners and traders I presume. Just sitting around running on water and fertilizer and alloy won't help.
No, just off of FOW+Repair commodities, anything else is pure profit. Mind you these are manufacturing pobs not refineries

I have no dog in this fight, but how is your situation different then this one? Were ooRP biases at play there also?
It seems the exact same scenario to me also.
well this is what happens when someone states a false claim about pobs. sure, time investment can be calculated at the value of the best HRC route at the moment (gold-hfuel) but uh. that only works if you were going to trade in that time before. personally, i dont place value of my time at the most efficient HRC route. because i will not sit and waste my life away on making money in a 5ker. theres plenty of ways to make money, and i dont need to f2, f3, spacebar and shift+W my way through 8 systems.
and as for the gold ore mining speed. i have both bore witness to it being that fast and have pulled it off myself once or twice. it is possible to truly get it good and make more money than even trading can compete with. Gold is by far the most profitable to mine? either solo or as a team.
aside from this. there's too many damn pobs everywhere. go take a stroll through Omega 3 and find the Fourteen that are there, at least that was last check in that system. Delta was the same but some of them have been removed now. the dublin siege has already been clearly explained before, and its outcome is just a product of that. people wanna cry over pobs, and keep crying over them? delete em. make excrutiatingly plainful prices for pob produced equipment on npc bases and be done with them altogether. then no one can whine that their precious floating station has been targeted by one liner roleplay, or that their base got destroyed by unlawfuls (becauae they failed to introduce themselves before the mollys found out base had a change in management) and that lawfuls refused to help (because of a blatant ignorance towards the Laws of Bretonia). you can feign any kinda "we did sufficient roleplay to avoid siege" but with the two major points (bold and in brackets above)... clearly you pursued the wrong path of events. it is what it is. id offer some words of comfort on this incident, but eh. to err is human. lets hope you dont make the same mistake twice, eh?

For a run with a few mistakes in it it's still sub 10min even without a timed cut, the travel time is 5 min each direction so you can easily get 20 minutes with it. Doesn't even account for OF ID's having higher mine rates.
Frankly the new mining scales somewhat with skill, even if you only manage 2.5 runs instead of 3 per hour that's still 2.3mil+ and more than trading which right now caps at around 2mil per hour if you use gold on half the leg.
