I have a task that I can only entrust to you, because of your skills and position. Although it is not exactly in your line of work, I think this task will be of great interest to you and useful to Vega and the future of shipbuilding on Livadia.
As you may know, we've been working on extracting iridium ore for several years now. Previously we transported it in the same form to various organizations, because even in that form it is quite valuable, now we have a module in Athens for smelting to obtain pure iridium. Naturally, it is successfully exported as before, but... Considering our position as a supplier of one of the strongest metals according to the periodic table and Vega with hull panel damage of about 40%, we have a reasonable task.
We need to create a new iridium-based alloy that will be qualitatively different from the existing ones. Vega will be our pilot project to test the new panels, and later we can apply it to a wider class of ships. Don't worry about the problems of casting metals or composite materials, the material will be manufactured at Dauman Heavy Construction's facilities, so the flight of your construction ideas is practically unlimited.
Think about where you need to start. You have time, but keep in mind that rebuilding Vega will have a very positive effect on the security perimeter of Kadesh Orbital City and undoubtedly their siege wasn’t last. We need to develop a material that will be able to resist the monstrous amount of energy released by the Nomads ships. You can see for yourself the nature of the damage on Vega, at the slightest damage to the armor, everything inside burns to a crisp.
Once again, ye never fail tae find new ways tae gie me a challenge.
I'll have a word wi' the lads at Livadia; nae doubt we can cobble together a team fit for the task. Mind, it might set back our research on the next Athens upgrades by a wee smidgen.
If ye can pass along the data from the last Kadesh siege and give us the nod tae strip some o' its armor for study, we'd be grateful.
The Vega’s battered hull might already be pointin’ us in the right direction.
I'll head tae ma workshop an' keep ye in the loop wi' anythin' I find.
You are free to bound Vega integrity as it reaches Livadia's drydock. Undoubtedly, in order to finally fix the ship we will still have to deal with partial disassembly. At the moment, the propulsion and generation system is fully restored, which is not the case with many subsystems, such as avionics and various weapons, some of the decks still crippled and left intact after the Nomad strike, so you will have enough of material for further analysis.
I'll reach out to Kadesh databanks to transfer extensive knowledge on our analysis of the Nomad damage patterns on our ships. But don't forget that armor should be effective against human-type weapons too, such groups as Corsairs will never leave us alone. All of our information will be available to you, if you need more, feel free to ask.
Aye, I’ll figure somethin’ oot. A new adaptive armor’s an auld project we’ve had sittin’ in the back o’ the shop. It’s meant tae handle protectin’ against all sorts o’ threats.
I’ll bring it back tae life—livin’ armor, or somethin’ like that, as the lads called it. It’s got a complex crystal lattice driven by... och, nae point losin’ ye in the details, aye?
If ye fancy, I can send ye the full report on it. Fair warnin’, though—it’s grand for puttin’ neophytes an’ the ignorant tae sleep in five minutes flat!
On a side note, I got me hands on some damaged Kadesh's armor an’ their databanks tae boot. Some o’ it was bound for recycling—can ye believe it? We near lost ourselves a scientific treasure chest!
