"As our cruiser jumped out of the hyperspace, long silence on the bridge was broken by a sudden flood of radio traffic, emerging ship signatures, and terabytes of incoming data about system changes we hadn't seen in a year.
We found ourselves on the edge of the Omicron Pi system. Sirius sector smiled at us like a mother smiles at the return of her prodigal son. We had no choice but to smile back. But Adam didn't: he looked down, thinking about those who hadn't made it to the end.
Sirius smile was deceptive. Our smiles were same. Finally, we are home."
34th Order long-range space expeditionary brigade - «Hades»
SYNOPSIS
When humanity needed help again - they came home.
The Order survived the loss of Toledo and was able to regain its former power and multiply it many times over. Reaching the peak of their greatness in 830 A.S., the continuators of Orillion's work suggested that the alien threat of the Nomads in Sirius was only a fraction of what might await them outside the sector.
Founding several “30th Pattern” units, the 34th Brigade became the largest expeditionary force among its peers. Adam Helson took on the important mission of exploring places where man would not set foot for at least another century. And the unknown opened its gates to them.
Things that are incomprehensible to the human mind, artificially created anomalies and hitherto-unseen in its size structures literally mocked the mind of the Brigade members. But, as is always the case, human persistence prevailed. They brought important knowledge, at great cost.
And while the powerful tear the sector apart once more, the 34th Brigade is carrying the banners of the Order to Sirius, determined to end the Nomad threat once and for all. A new chapter of the confrontation between humans and Daam-Kvosh creatures begins here.
STORY
830 A.S. The Order is experiencing an unprecedented rise in strength. A series of brilliant strategic operations against the The Core and the infliction of several defeats on the Nomad forces closed another decade on the calendar in favor of humanity defenders. A flood of recruits and their active combat alignment with veterans has spurred the formation of a host of new units that were expected to become the next generation of the Casper Orillion structure.
At the height of their power, the Order's commanders create a new project to explore the “distant worlds” that lie beyond the Sirius Sector. The mission was to search for and discover other intelligent life forms and study the alien threat to ensure humanity's safety for decades to come. The “30th Pattern” units became humanity's calling card into the depths of the unknown. Among such units was the 34th Hades Brigade, whose command was assumed by Adam Helson, a veteran of multiple combat operations and already commanding the 16th Order strike squadron.
By combining veteran personnel with new faces, 34th Brigade has become a model of a successful blend of old and new, past and future. With its sheer size, the Brigade has participated in the research operations of several notable Omicrons, and was baptized in combat a month after its creation, managing to repel a superior Nomad force. Brigade members records and awards were growing, the number of successful missions was increasing, and the scientific staff could compete in their knowledge with many of the sector's geniuses. In 833 A.S., the Brigade was given its new mission, a life-changing one: to travel several hundred light-years beyond the sector and explore other star systems. In fact, Adam and his charges were to accomplish what their unit had been created for. On July 29, 833 A.S., the Brigade's forces advanced into unknown space.
In total, the Brigade managed to map some 44 star systems that were honored by the Order's commanders. The research showed that the worlds outside the sector were unfriendly: the creators of the Nomads had left many traces, but made sure that no one would ever unravel their secrets except their creations. As expected, legitimate dangers awaited humans outside the sector.
The reports leave only an idea of what the Brigade encountered, for the “defense” of such systems was more serious than a simple skirmish with the Nomads. It was a battle of wits and cunning between humans and those long gone from the sector. And the ancient beings had prevailed, as expected, forcing the 34th Brigade to retreat back to the Sirius Sector with high looses. Of the 52 two ships, only two returned home: "Hades" cruiser and a fighter with the "Anubis" callsign. However, the data was preserved and, upon returning home, it was transferred to the Order's research centers. Their contents remain “Top Secret”, and only the most competent members of the Order are familiarized with what the Brigade saw in those places. The surviving members of the Brigade signed all sorts of non-disclosure papers, which implied their silence about the details of that operation.
The brigade's return to service and active duty came in the fall of 834 A.S., when "Hades" left the repair docks for new missions inside the Sirius sector. Using all sorts of connections, Adam Helson made sure that the Brigade was not disbanded and continued to exist. He sent his power to replenish the Brigade to return to the mission of fighting the alien threat within the sector. With the flow of recruits only increasing by the day, Adam, along with the “old school”, look forward to the future, striving to restore their Brigade to its former glory.
