When Liberty corporations muscled into Rheinland space following the defaulted loan of 668 AS, I understand that many industries were bought up. Synth Foods for instance moved in on the Stuttgart system. At least, that's what I've gathered from my reading.

If this is the case, why doesn't Rheinland exile the Liberty companies and replace them with their own, nationalize them maybe. It doesn't make sense to me that they would put up with their presence. Is it that lasting corruption in the Rheinland government allows them to stay? I'm curious and the further explanation would help me quite a bit in RPing one of my characters.

Furthermore, if anyone would be interested in speaking about the war and it's causes, I'd love to hear it. I've read what the wiki has to offer and understand some of the reasons, but not everything. I get that Rheinland published an embarrassing report on Liberty's involvement with alien technology that resulted in a ban on inter system commerce between the nations. But how did the embargo grow into a full scale war?

Liberty framed Rheinland. That's how the war started.... War mongering from Liberty.

As for why companies like Synth Foods are still around... Well, we in Rheinland blame the poor Stuttgart Governor. Ageira and DSE are the only ones who know how to upkeep trade lanes and jump gates... So they have to pass. Universal has no holdings. Interspace isn't a Liberty Corp, any more.

Topic moved to a more fitting location.

I was under the impression that Rheinland was getting large sums of money from Synth, and considering Rheinlands economic state they could not simply eliminate such a large base of support.

In anything, I would thing Synth would be getting more pressure from Liberty then Rheinland.

For one thing, Stuttgart can pretty much only manage the plant that produces Synth Paste at this point after all the changes Synth has done. So if they did, it would end up causing a noticeable loss in food production. Combined with the high costs involved (the whole Stuttgart situation came about because of Rheinland owing money after the war), it would be economical suicide. And that would let Liberty win!

Of course, if Rheinland just disallows them from exporting to Liberty, they have no reason. It gives them food and helps ALG's, and to a lesser extent Daumann's, business. So, making sure they just can't export it only helps their position as their benefits are greater than the benefits Liberty gets from the taxes from some of Synth's business.

Okay, all that makes sense to me, but I need a little bit more info about Liberty framing Rheinland. Does that have to do with the Alien Tech report that I read about in the wiki? How was Rheinland framed?

I think Rhienland is at war with the Liberty Navy and Government, no? As long as those Liberty Corporations aren't funding the Government, I can't see Rhienland minding so much. They aren't such ruthless bastards as to declare all of Liberty hostile over some disagreement with the Government. I think most Liberty Corporations are independently owned anyway. and not a part of the Liberty Government. The mind set that "Liberty = Liberty" needs to stop. All the factions with in a house are not owned and operated by the Government.
So really, Liberty = the LN and LSF. All other factions, including the LPI, are independently owned. There may be one or two Liberty Corporations that are owned by the Government too, but I'm not up to speed with many of those factions.
