Second video is when Dash had the right sur file loaded, and should show the difference quite well compared to the original hitbox.

sorry, forgot about that. stupid surfiles. still don`t know why the copying went wrong.

Hitbox's play a role in combat. And combat is what sets the balance... Anyhow this is now over to testers...

So what you are saying is that the Order and the Corsairs got an advantage, on purpose, with regards to battleships, since they are flying the Osiiris, which uses a near perfect htibox made by Digital Anvil as well as any other faction who are flying capships from Vanilla Freelancer ?

Their hitboxes make it harder to hit their ships at aspect ratio shots, since they are tight fitting - while the Mako's curent hitbox makes it hard NOT to hit the ship at aspect ratio shots.

If Dash is up for it, I don't mind if we produce another video with the current Mako hitbox, where he shoots the exact same shots from the exact same distance and angles as he did in the fist video.

If you have seen the video, where Dash is firing mortars and turret shots from an aspect below front and to the side of the Mako (approx 4 mins in, on the first video), you would realise that with the current hitbox, those turretshots were only one or two of the shots hits, while the rest fly past, those shots would have had ALL the turretshots hit with the current hitbox.

If he did the same against an Osiris, the result would be pretty much similar to the result he filmed with the revised Mako.

Mako was tested and balanced with old broken hitbox.

Now if it receives new hitbox, it will have to be tested again, and possibly rebalanced. I personally think there wont be any drastical changes though.

thats not really correct...

we look mostly on what ships are supposed to be like ( visible part ) - while the hitboxers try to make the box as fitting as possible.

again - we look at the SHIP for the most part - and only at the hitbox when the hitbox is greatly inaccurate. - the mako itself was tested and balanced with the SHIP ( the thing we see ) and not the hitbox in mind.

anyway - whats done will be done. - if it really turns out that the fitting hitbox is too good, - it will be balanced.

mind, "balanced" goes both ways. - and "balance" is also objective and non biased ( in its best state ) - so.... we will try to balance the mako one way or another.

How you can test the ship with hitbox that didnt exist until now? If it was tested, it must have been with the innacurate hitbox, thus the balancing should have been affected by this.

"It has broken hitbox, but the model is small, so we will balance it like it would have proper hitbox."

See the weird logic in that?

Or you could also use a cylinder as a hitbox for the Osiris....

@darkpearl:

call us idealistic... - but we primarily compare the models when it comes to testing - and we do many test runs ( with the hitbox of course ).

but "in mind" is always the model. - do you know what hitbox the juggernaut has? - its a HUGE diamond shaped thingy covering like more space around the ship than actual model.

but the ship is balanced with the model in mind ( not like it matters at that size anyway )

our goal is to give a model a hitbox that does it justice. - our problem is that it often does not. - but we balance with the actual hitbox. ( balance in terms of test fights )

who knows - maybe the changed hitbox has no effect on pvp at all? - why should we alter the stats then in any way. - its like players complaining about like "my ship has a turning of 0.0003 worse than my enemies" - as if they really feel the difference. - thats like turning 1/1000 second faster in a full 360 degrees turn.
