A year or two ago when I last played around with freelancer (prior to this most recent renewal of interest) I was tinkering around with mines. I was trying to use them as ammunition for flak cannons. The goal was to have proximity explosions. To me at least that seemed more "flakish" then the in game flaks. Though I found a few cool things you can do with mines, I never got the flak cannons to work properly or at all really.
I am hoping that a modder on the boards here may take a fresh eye to this for me and weigh in on its possibility or perhaps an alternate way to look at the problem.

(Really, I speak terrible English, so please, tell me if I make mistakes. I'd like to improve it a bit )
Interesting perspective. The matter would in fact be about giving the launched mines quite a speed. Right now, mines are simply dropped. velocity = 0. There must be a way of throwing mine-like projectiles from the ship so that they were no slower, than regular shots or missles.
Got an idea! This will however make these mines damn uber against fighters... Increase their lock-on range to...let's say the current maximum turret firing range on battleships. Next, give them a huge speed. So that the enemy craft was hit almost instantly after being targeted and fired upon. It would look like this: you target a ship, drop a mine (or spam them all over) and each one of them instantly, in the first split second after launch, locks on and flies very fast towards the traget.
If we could make it so that flak can't be 'ignited' by explosions. If two people are firing flak at one another, and one of the flak bullets (or whatever. Pellets) explodes, it'll make the other ones go up. Now, I doubt we can change that, but meh, I can dream, no?
Then again, the thing would be getting it to fire the ammo, and then come to a halt. Can it be done?
