Adam Jones was born to a moderately wealthy family on planet New Tokyo. His mother stayed home all the time to take care of him and his older brother, while his father worked as a high-ranking executive in Samura Industries. Adam's father was a stern man, absent six days out of the week for business. When he spent time with Adam, he focused on teaching Adam the ways of industry. Everything was business, he told him. Everything was give and take. Adam understood that it was just business, then, when the pirates destroyed his father's ship as he was overseeing a trade convoy. He also found a means of explaining away the slaughter of that same wing of pirates as giving back his fair share to his father's murderers.
It was on that lonely night, after Adam had returned to his home on Planet New Tokyo, that his mother took her own life. She hung herself from a cherry tree in the backyard, and as Adam saw her corpse, he fell to his knees. He cried out as anguish overtook his body, wracked with sobs.
Unimpressed, the werewolf waited.
As Adam fell to the ground, his face cushioned by the razor-sharp grass, he pounded his fist in to the dew-beholden earth, and yelled incoherently. In his grief, however, he did not notice the werewolf sneak up behind him, and it was a complete surprise when the delighted werewolf bit him in the back of the neck. Adam yelled in pain, and the wolf released its bite, realizing that something was wrong. Feeling around with his tongue, the wolf noticed only dimly that his teeth had been completely dissolved. As the wolf fell to the ground, dying from the neurotoxin racing through his veins, he realized the unmistakable truth: That this boy had a rat poison addiction, and over time the deadly poison had built up in his bloodstream. However, as he had consumed it in very small doses, Adam's resistance to it had coped with the high levels of toxin in his veins. It was about then that Adam blacked out.
In the morning, he awoke. He was human, perhaps, but the bite marks on his neck had completely vanished in the night. In the coming months, he would discover that in spite of having been bitten by a werewolf, he did not become a werewolf himself. Rather, every night, he seemed to become faster, stronger, and more bloodthirsty. In addition, moonlight increased his powers by tenfold for every stage toward full the lunar cycle crept. Indeed, the citygoers became so fearful of Adam that they came to call him "Nightstalker". And hence he cast off his given name, stole a Spatial from an unfortunate pilot, and hacked his IFF to read Freelancer. He now soars through the endless void, his reaction time, intelligence, and strength always at their peak in the eternal night.
In addition, please note that the werewolf was in fact descended from a nomad infested dog, resulting in its curious genetic enhancements. Note that Balanar is indeed part werewolf, but the phenomenon of werewolves should be considered a result of nomad meddling.
