I must say this, I am not a huge fan of racing games, furthermore simulators. I do enjoy encountering other players, shooting them in the head with a Desert Eagle, picking them off with a M24 or slashing them over with my Posioned Dragon Lance +3.
But this is a game I really like, because not only it's free, but the success of your driving is placed upon your own knowlige of the car.
The car you have have maaaany settings:
Transmission settings
Tire settings
Suspention settings
Control settings
Pitt settings
Each setting has over 10 sub settings starting from the final drive rato and ending with wither you use a blocked fwd differencial and what is the degree of your tire yaw.
Default settings are the worst you can get and it's up to you to tweak it perfectly.
But there are many professional rigs you can download and install on your car.
And what is fun, every mistake counts:
Drifting with slicks? - You won't last 5 laps before you run on cords.
Using auto clutch? - you wont last an endurance race, where you will find your clutch has burned.
Random damage in engine components, suspention ect ect.
The game has tire deformation.
How cool is that, tire deformation!
Seriously, you have time now that the server is dead. Go race.

Yeah, unless the person you are racing with has lag, means his car suddenly goes still and darts foward when the packige is received...if you are infront of him you might find yourself launched with the speed of sound.
LFS is an awesome game you will waste if you dont
a) steer with either wheel or mouse
b) don't shift gears yourself
c) don't try an f1 race and then write a missive to Nakajima or any other f1 racer who never wins a race, apologizing to him for making fun of his driving skills
Try LSF, it's fun. Find each other via Hamachi program or something.
Yeap, LFS is a great game. I've had it for ages, finally got sick of driving off a keyboard and mouse, so I went and grabbed a G25. Then I got sick of the demo and grabbed myself an S2 licence, best way to put the wheel to use.

OOh yeah. Those things are not an easy vehicle to drive. Even with traction control you burn out the tires and spin, depending on how heavy your foot is.
Anyway, if anyone wants to organise a race or something, buzz me on Skype at "scott.wilson."
