Topic display irregularities

Sometimes the board likes displaying topics the way I like reading them, with all the posts in chronological order, among separate pages. Other times it likes to display them the way I hate reading them, with just the original posts and then the reply hierarchy in list view beneath it. There are some features about that I like, but for the most part it makes reading a thread very difficult. Am I missing whatever setting changes this, and sometimes accidentally changing it, or what's going on?

There are so many topics about it already. Due to the topic titles hard to use the search it seems.

Right above your post is something called "OPTIONS"
In the dropdown menu use the "STANDARD" function.
