Exactly. So why force people who don't "use the 'Cargo Space' value assigned to ships as a representation of the amount of space available, total, throughout the ship." to conform to your kind of roleplay?
It's not like any one's forcing you not to carry pilots...
We don't need to force people to put pilots in their cargo hold. What I'm saying is that in my opinion, having pilots in the hold improves presentation and roleplay.
For the farming abuse. It can be counteracted by making the player pilots "[faction] Player Pilot" and exclude it from the NPC's routines for asking for "[faction] Pilot"s. And of course, [faction] Player Pilots sell for nothing.
It makes perfect sense to have a pilot on your ship representing you.
Where I think there is a problem is you cant make it mandatory. There are people that have automated ships or drones that aren't piloted by anyone. Also sure there are a great number of people who feel like "i dont fly from the cargo bay". I can sit here and argue the fact that when you scan ANY npc ship what do you see? A pilot in the cargo hold but that isn't what I am here to debate.
My suggestions is simple make the pilot a purchasable commodity at guard houses. Of course freelancers and civi's will be sold elsewhere. Such as Freelancers sold at baffin or whatever. To eliminate people showing up and buying a full load of pilots to sell somewhere. Just increase the sell price to be higher than any of the other bases. So for instance a pilot at your own guard house will cost you 20,000.
This will prompt two things to happen..
One it would allow the people that are more interested in RP than losing a small amount of cargo space to do so. I am tired of having to stop and shoot down an NPC completely going out of character so I can scoop up a "crewman".
Two if you pick up another pilot from another faction you will be tempted to try and sell that pilot back to the faction. Since the pilots cost 20,000 and you pick one up that belongs to another faction. The faction's guard house in my opinion should offer the most money to get them back. So if you bring him back to his faction a player of that same faction would have no problem paying 15,000. Since for that pilot he can get 20k at the guard house. Either way it could make for some interesting RP situations.
Since its not mandatory and on every ship you buy. If you don't want to use the pilot to RP that is your prerogative. This will just make it easier for those of us that want to rp with a pilot in our hold. Also keeps us from having to damage our rep with our own faction by shooting down our own pilots. I know its not much damage to the rep but that's not really my point here.
Now to this post I say:
' Wrote:The only problem would be the cargo hold, I mean why don't we make pilots weightless? And non-loseable.
So even after you "die" you don't have to go buy a new crew and spend mills of credits.
Oh boohoo cry me a river why don't ya? I mean really in this game death isn't punishment enough. So you have to resupply your ship with bots, bats, cms, and ammo. This is nothing in the grand scheme of things. Truth be told when death hurts more it inspires more RP and less PEW PEW for no reason. If you know that death isn't going to hurt you will do things that you wouldn't normally do.
