Right,

This question has been bugging me for a long time.

We all know, and either love or hate (preferably love as we play the damn thing:)) the canon associated with disco mod.

I can fully understand GC, ie this community, adhering to the canon very firmly, as Disco RP 24/7 is pretty much the flagship disco server.

My question comes in with the other communities; UK, USA, Berlin etc. Do they have to follow the canon that this community sets up to the letter? For example, does a hypothetical Blood Dragon faction have to exactly mirror the cannon set out by the Blood Dragon faction on this server?

I'll make this clear before I carry on; I have no problem with disco cannon; it's a good thing, it gives us a brilliant backstory to work off...work off.

I'm asking because I think this is a matter of interpretation of canon; shouldn't (within reason) other communities be able to interpret the canon set out by the dev team so that they can be original and creative in their own way? The leader of the BAF on one server will have a different interpretation to the leader of the BAF on another. It's good for variety; we don't want four or five identical servers/communities.

Think of it like..I don't know...Bible interpretation. The ones who take it word for word are generally seen as fruitcakes, whilst people who actually interpret and contextualise the words actually might come out with something meaningful. Yes, their will be differences between different people, but that's good, it promotes individuality whilst everyone is still reading off the same songsheet.

What do you guys think?

In m not-so-humble opinion, since His Lordship Igiss and his team of Wizards (aka Devteam) are locals... and this forum/server is the official one...

We rule.

We are the primary server, modwork is happening for this place primarily. Other servers are stuck with what is decided here whether they like it or not.

I think the point got missed ... The back-story and NPC empathies are written for the mod, and used here
for this server as they are, following our route.
How it is all interpreted on other servers running the Discovery mod, is entirely up to those communities.

Story-wise, I would say so. However, not every Blood Dragon faction has to have the SAME diplomacy and SAME government. You can do mini-adjustments.

Say, in UK, the BD and GC had some weird feud and declared war. In USA, they completely merged.

However, they cannot change the fact that Kusari is winning, and Gallia is about to invade.
