Some of you know I am studying 3D animation this year. The course includes:

Matte Painting
Modeling (Maya)
Sculpting (ZBrush/MudBox)
Texturing
Lighting
Rendering (MentalRay)
Compositing

Last week I completed my Matte Painting summative. The summative included I painted over a picture I took at the old Cement works near my house. It is in ruins and there is a large lake. I threw together a story but I won't bother you with that.

I decided to use the lake so I took a pirate ship model curtousy of one of the 2nd year students and textured it.

Enjoy:
Large (3840x2160)

Medium (1024x576)

The pirate ship I textured, the city, mountains, clouds and the wake of the ship also. It took me 3 hours alone to get the wake looking right. I have over 1GB of reference on wake alone. I am proud of it to say the least.

Tell me what you think guys!:)

Holy crap... that's amazing!

It's hard to tell just by looking at the picture exactly what was part of the original... Nice going.

Got the original picture for comparison?

pretty good looking. Just the pirate ship, the texture on the back seems a bit off....

Thanks! Yes I have the whole development process I will upload later.

Thanks. I couldn't get the back to look right no matter what I did. I did a last minute colour correction because the last colour was too bright and it all got messed up. Something I might fix in the future.

I tried but couldn't find any. The current sails are pretty good though;)
